Hey Scotty, I have and 2010 Ford F150. My fuel gauge recently stopped working. I've checked fuses and they are all good. Truck starts and drives fine, but the gauge is not working. What can I do to fix this issue?

In 2004 I had a 98 WRX. The fuel pump had died according to the Subaru mechanic the entire unit would be a $700 repair. I asked him where the fuel pump is located, he told me under the rear seat. I bought a fuel pump and changed it myself for a grand total of $70.

Have to agree...bought a pump for a K2500 suburban at the local parts store got the "best" offered $300+/- and 2wks to the date it was installed I'm on the side of the Rd calling a rollback. Well the store gave me a refund for the part but of course not the $260 towing bill. General Mess (GM) wanted $500 almost 200k later it's still working. This same thing happened to my Ford 4.0 Ranger but this time I just happened to break down at a convenience store next to the chain parts store I bought it from. Let the truck sit overnight after visiting the Ford place. I pulled the bed off and change the pump right in the parking lot. Gave a customer $20 to help me pick up the bed and set it back on...never buy a discount electric fuel pump.

Learned that the hard way. Installed an aftermarket fuel pump and the plastic ring that locks the pump in place completely fractured after 2 weeks of use and caused a bad evap leak. If you have a Honda, use the Honda part. The original lasted me 280,000 miles. I have an '03 Accord.

I have an 05 V8 4runner that was randomly hesitating a few years ago because the fuel pump was going bad. I got the exact entire assembly out of a much newer, low mileage, totaled Lexus GX for $80, cut open my own access under the back seat so I didn't have to drop the tank & it's been running perfectly ever since.

I usually get fuel immediately after first low fuel warning to avoid stress on the pump. Consumer reports had an article back in 2000 where they stated low fuel can damage the pump. Just recently another article this year states damage will not occur by running on low fuel😏. Could be new pump design /location on newer pumps. I will still stick with refueling at first low fuel chime😉

And he failed to mention that the in tank pumps use the gas to keep them cool, so if you are always keeping the level of gas very low, or running out of gas a lot, that WILL help the pump to fail early.

yeah when your cranking and cranking, it wont start immediately, because the gas in the line dripped back into the gas tank, bad rubber seal, the gas has to travel back up to the motor so you get that couple seconds, maybe five seconds. it can still run forever just wont start for a couple seconds of cranking. had one was just super annoying.

Thanks this helps me so much I stoped driving and started walking 😂 when I started experiencing low acceleration when I step on the fuel pedal and mechanics couldn’t diagnose the problem another symptom if you realise your fuel gauge indicating to high especially when you have low fuel level just know the dude is about to give way just buy one and dump it somewhere in your car just incase 😅

Don't run on out of gas .My 2013 Ford Escape fuel pump quit the one and only time I ran it out of gas. Ford wanted $1200 dollars to replace it. Said they have to drop the rear axle to get to the fuel pump. I drop the tank put one in myself for the cost of the pump in 45 minutes.

I had one car that wouldn’t start unless you cranked and cranked on it ant found there was a valve between fuel tank and engine that kept fuel from going all the way back to tank. If valve goes bad, it will let fuel go all the way back to tank and be very very hard to start.

HAHA!!! I nursed an ailing fuel pump almost a year with Lucas! It started by blowing the fuel pump fuse, replaced fuse would last about 2 weeks. I dumped 2x as much Lucas as recommended into the gas tank, which "lubed" the pump. I got 11 months out of it before it croaked. Why? Because I was "told" it was a $950 part. I got the complete fuel pump with sending unit, bucket, and float, BRAND NEW from ECS Tuning for $150. What I learned? Never underestimate the power of the Lucas. Never take ANYONE'S WORD FOR ANYTHING. ALWAYS do your own research!!!

@@ThefuckyallLookingAt I have never used it in my VWs engine oils. I have used it in old cars from the 70's 80's and early 90's to bump up the quality of the dino oil. I also use a small amount in the small engines of my lawn mower, (25 yrs old now, runs perfect, no smoke, and it's been on 4 mower decks) and a snow blower, (16 yrs old, runs perfect, no smoke). My VWs and my small engines have also been on synthetic oil since day one.

Most cars built in the last 15-20 years have a lift pump in the tank and your fuel pump is on the engine. It's electronic controlled and hydraulic driven by camshaft.

Isn't it true that if your fuel pump stops working,you can sometimes strike the bottom of the fuel tank,and get the pump to work 1 more time ,so you don't need a tow truck to get back home.

I've heard of that , it might work but don't knock a hole in your gas tank trying it . Have someone turn the key on while you listen . If you hear a whine for about 2 seconds , the fuel pump is working and trying to start .

A pump that’s failing usually shuts itself off when it gets hot. Let the car sit for 5 minutes then try cranking the engine if your car randomly stalls out why’ll driving with no check engine light it’s a failing pump get it replaced before you can’t drive the car anymore

Another less common issue with hard starts on 90/00's cars is sometimes those hoses inside the tank connected to the fuel pump develop a small leak and cause problems, its generally the corrugated clear plastic hoses that do that although I've seen it happen with rubber internal fuel lines as well

Replaced fuel pump and sending unit. It fixed problems with the gas gauge and speedometer. My joy was short lived as five weeks later, the gas gauge is stuck at 7/8 of a tank. Now I must figure out what to do

I had a fuel pump go out on my sable,99’.. I also have a 91 Cougar, so right after the sable I got the cougars done because it had been a long time and don’t know if it had ever been done.. was my sisters car before me… also needed the front and rear engine seals done so since you have to take the gas tank out to get to the rear seal, just did the fuel pump same time! Think the radiator blew at the same time so front seal was a no brainer!

Also DON'T LET YOUR TANK GO BELOW 1/4! The gasoline acts as a coolant for the pump. Falling below 1/4 tank doesn't keep the pump submerged and it overheats causing premature failure.
