okay long note ahead!! i have Thoughts.
first, gil speaks so soft, like a whisper, so much around jessica? did not notice this before but it makes the sound quality of this suffer and i apologize for that; boosting certain quotes more made them pitch out. (it makes their dynamic even more sweet though ahslgkh.) second, the organization of this may be confusing; i was not going to include the 'you are not his father' quote at first but then, it felt right from them talking about jackie, and malcolm is the thread that binds them, so- from there, i did not want to include martin quotes, but they are perfect imo because he got so close to identifying the draw between them and then completely missed it thanks to his void of empathy (yet it did hint at gil's later explored insecurities, for the audience). plus endicott's 'love blind' quote is Great because again same thing; true about gil, but it is exactly what drives jessica into Badass Mode. in heels and an evening dress. what a woman.
finally, i didn't think i would vid for them after all because i like instrumental songs (or ones with few lyrics) and this one is not that but 1) i genuinely couldn't find a song with a more fitting sound than this one, which i love, and 2) i realized on rewatching (many times...) how much of this couple is in subtext? even in their confession scene. and while it's hard to vid - i love them so much more for it!! you can just FEEL the history between them. they're both so comfortable and yet hesitant with one another because it's like what jessica said, gil is so gOOD for malcolm and them and gil clearly does feel like malcolm's father (AS HE SHOULD) and risking that is scary, even now after all these years. just. heart eyes. where's that renewal announcement???
i will definitely be doing a malcolm vid too fyi, and maybe ainsley because i really want to, but those will be a while.
