So I don't usually comment in stuff like this but I feel like I have a perspective that I can share here and I want to say.... Sahil is absolutely right So long story short took Biology in Class 11 and 12 (I am from the COVID batch so never gave the exam) then went on to a private college and is currently doing Bachelors in Computer Applications mostly because of family and parents and currently in my final year about to finish next June if I play my cards right I straight up never liked anything study related I did EVER I would rather do anything else than that but I always knew one thing that I did not wanted to make my career in either of those fields that was until I found Japanese and started learning it and joined classes it was then I realized not only can I do it but I was good at it and it made me proud as it wasn't something everyone else can do and started exploring career possibilities for myself in the field of Language and Language alone nothing else and nothing more and found out I have a myriad of options (Interpreter, Translator, Teaching, Tourism etc) Everyone around me tried to make me feel that I was doing wrong and that I should be making my career in Coding because that's my degree and that's all my worth but I block out the noises and focused on what I love and realized when I changed Perspective and started to think differently about myself everyone else started changing perspective about me (except my father but he has always been the odd one out) they realized how passionate I am for it and how much I really intend on making a life out of just Japanese I don't know where my future will take me or which road I will end up choosing but I will say I know which direction I want to head in going forward For all intense and purposes by societal expectations I should have and should be sticking and searching for a field in Computer applications.... perhaps spending the rest of my life infront of a System and even before that I should have gone into a Medical field and perhaps become a doctor because I chose Biology in my last 2 years in School I am not disrespecting people who love doing it I am just saying that is not and never will be what I wanna do cause I suck at it and don't enjoy it but I did found something I love Going to college and getting a degree might be an aspect of life and perhaps it might be mandatory too in your eyes but I just wanna say as someone with a personal long journey where I will still be treading ahead that your Degree only defines you and makes you get "stuck with it" when you let it be and it is never the end all be all you can always make something more of your life I am not saying that is always the case there are certain exceptions but It will be far from the truth saying it is any norm maybe it used to be but not anymore I do want all to understand that though it is possible turning and making your life out of something completely different than your degree whether it be taking up coding like Sahil or Language Learning like me that it will always require 3 times the effort than any person who's simply persuing a degree and trying to get a job for life in that (whether they are passionate about it or not is another case) TLDR: Sahil is right and it is never too late to make something out of your life beyond your degree especially when it's not something you feel any love or passion for I myself am going through such experience and One only get stuck with it when they choose it to be so but remember that turning things around and making your life out of something completely different will be more difficult than just following the typical straight path of a regular degree to job route so keep that in mind Have a good day and this channel is awesome

Just find this video today, and it really makes me wonder about the way i look for my degree right now. And I think I will start to open to new possibilities, and learning more because I don't want to keep hanging myself on my degree that has proven useless for the last few years.

in regards to a degree that takes a lot of effort. I’m making that change. Going back to school for an MS in CS. While I have a masters in a field that allowed me to learn Python, SQL and some advanced stats. I want to get into computer graphics and this will require me to learn calculus, physics and linear algebra. On top off prerequisite computer science undergrad classes. I have a lot to do and I’m not even close. I’ve been reviewing all the math that comes before calculus since February and it will probably take me until the start of next summer before I’m well prepared to start taking classes. It’s a long road but well worth it.

Hi Sahil, I'm Christian an aspiring Software Engineer(I'm 17). I started my journey about a year ago and now i'm considering switching to Data Science or Cybersecurity as there are Software Engineers in the market right now and probably around 80% or more of people switching to tech go for it. I'm hoping to be admitted into Uni next year and i want to make my decision beforehand, i really need your advice or any other Software Engineer with a lot of experience. And i enjoy your videos a lot, they're very inspiring. Thanks🙏

Sahil, I retired from Eastman Chemical after working there for 38 years. Eastman loved to hire Mechanical Engineers because they always had a rigorous background in mathematics. The company knew that no matter where they put them they would eventually do well. I had many friends who were mechanical engineers who went on to become team leads, managers, and VP of HR. I spent my last 20 years in Info Tech and there were many Engineers who successfully made the move to become Systems Analysts, and their background in math made the transition into data science just that much easier.

For some unfortunate reasons I'm currently majoring in philosophy. I know how useless this degree really is but it's too late for me to pursue something else and since I don't have a job I can't afford any other degrees. I fell into deep depression thinking about my career. Now I've decided I'm going to start learning web development or web design, no matter how long it takes me I'll hold onto it. I'm 20 yo old. I think it's better late than never

He not only has a bachelors from IIT but a Master's degree from a reputed university as well. So, I don't know if the profiles will be comparable. I don't consider him as average. He has got exceptional credentials IMO, is hardworking and had a sense of direction, from what I understand from his content. Also, for many coding jobs in India, the employers look only for an engineering degree nowadays (branches such as electrical, mech etc. don't matter much). Also, coding is not the only necessary skill bro. When life gives you lemons, make lemonades. Stick with Finance if you like it. For starters, develop your excel skills (at least to a level where you pass a linkedin skill test), other MS Office skills (ppt, power BI etc) and most importantly, interview skills. Find out in demand roles in Finance and start your job with a good employer like one of the Big 4s. Powered with some good luck, you can command good salary after some years. I switched to finance when I was 28. Started at a low paying job but now I'm earning a good salary. Like he mentioned, there are skills required for each discipline, and in Finance, I believe the best and the most useful one to start with would be Excel. Later on, find an in-demand interest area and once you settle in a job, you could even consider doing some advanced courses/degrees like CFA to specialize. Finance jobs will always be there. Once you get into a good Finance area eg. (FP&A, costing, investment banking etc.), you'll see techies, Product Managers, Engineering Managers, HNIs etc coming to you asking for help and recommendations each day. I work with Product Managers and Engineers everyday, so I can tell. You probably won't get as much money as a techie but would still earn a decent salary to afford a good lifestyle. So, don't worry. All the best!
