So true! In my case hard starting has been result of ethanol blended gas gunking and corroding my carb, and usually takes a thorough clean before I can use my mower at the start of the season. A few years back I got sick and tired of the annual carb teardown, and since learning how to separate the ethanol from gasoline, been using only ethanol free gas in the mower. I do have to buy premium gas since removing ethanol drops the octane, but the mower and trimmers don't seem affect much with lower octane. Starts now every time first pull.
@FarpointFarms4 ай бұрын
Good to hear, I still would recommend a stabilizer as "zero" ethanol gas can still have a very small % of it in there. Better safe than sorry if you will be not using it for a while.

I have a snapper mower and every fall after mowing is done I run the mower until I have 1/4 or less of gas in the tank. I put it away and in the spring I add fresh non ethanol gas and it starts up right away. Once in a while I add starter fluid so I don't have to yank the cord so often. I've used this method for years on my snapper, a Toro, a back pack blower, edger and generator. Running the engine until dry will let seals dry out and perhaps leak. 🤔 This has worked for me for 20 years and I've saved a lot in gas, and ware and tare on the engines, gasoline, and noise!

This is my problem 95% of the time. Even with ethanol free fuel I still have to clean my carb a couple times a summer. Depending on your model/engine it might be really easy to access without taking any parts off. On my last 3 mowers and snowblower (Husqvarna, John Deere, Simplicity) the carb was right there on the side-- all I have to do is clamp the fuel line and and unscrew the carb bowl. Easy to do in less than 5 minutes. I also recommend adding a fuel line shut off for $1 and fuel filter.

You need to empty the fuel tank and rinse it with clean fuel and dump it. Check it's screen and blow back thru the fuel supply hose for the carb. If the fuel sat for years, you're going to find it has changed while it sat in the tank. It's best to run them out or drain them if they are stored and going to sit. Then clean and gap the plug to .030" Start with fresh fuel on assembly. Find out about your autochoke for it needing attention to operate freely. This one just had a little debris he saw while spraying the carb out. But there are other ways this job can turn. Everything went great here.

@@davidmoran4471 you don't need to mix 50/50. It says right on the can of seafoam that it is a fuel stabilizer. And I definitely wouldn't put it down the cylinder. It's not an oil. Did I miss something ? I don't remember you tightening the bolt on the automatic choke . The shiny one. Or did I blink at the wrong time ? Good video. I plan to try this tomorrow.

Through trial and error I suspected and usually did this, usually in place. But this makes it far more formalized and clears up many of the black art mysteries that build up as repair superstitions.

Learned a new trick, will use brake cleaner to clean my carbs now. Nice work

brake cleaner also makes the best wasp spray- they are dead before they hit the ground- Wife is allergic so that is our go to.

if mine don't start i scrap it and then buy some beers 🍺🍺🍺🍺.... just kidding 😂

If you scrap it, you can't afford to buy beer and a new mower. This way you can do both

This was perfect-minus running to the store and gathering my tools, it took me about 20 minutes, and a mower that wouldn’t start ran like it was brand new. Great video, thanks!

I have to pick up a can of carb cleaner for my EX775. Same thing, it will run on starter fluid or a couple of drops of gas for a few seconds then quit. I'll post back and let you know how I made out.

@@FarpointFarms Started first pull! I have the oblong/oval shaped air cleaner. So, slightly different tear down, linkage and spring locations. I also needed the gasket between the air cleaner housing and carburetor and a bowl gasket. The bowl gasket swollen as soon as the carburetor cleaner hit it. I through in a new air cleaner and spark plug for good measure.

Had the same problem with my Yamaha Blaster 2 stroke, took the carb off cleaned it, cleaned the jets, cleaned the needle value... started on 2nd kick! Most of what I know and learned from watching and hands on ( No schooling in mechanics) ...

I pulled a dozen times and ...no go. I emptied the fuel tank and removed the main jet, blew through it and it was clear. I replaced the bowl and the jet. Replaced the spark plug and put fresh hi test gas into the tank. 1 pull. She go. Thank you God Oh and don't forget sharpening the blade. I need to

Impressive friend. My older Craftsman ceased running optimally. This was after running each week since May. Ran it fully out of fuel on last mow. Now sputtering. Took off air cleaner and housing and sprayed into carb to try to clean it without taking it apart. Still, 1/2 run and stall. Bought a new/used Craftsman.

Thank you very much sir. This video was about the exact same lawn mower I have. Would you also have a video about weed eater repair, namely craftsman? My weed eater will start after pressing the primer bulb then cut off. Also, the primer bulb doesn't spring back out. After pressing it about four times it slowly comes back out. Thanks in advance.
