You should always connect and tighten the non-chassis terminal first and only then connect and tighten the chassis terminal - this prevents short circuits

I also just recently learned that you can use a 9v battery to pop open the frunk!

I was able to get my Model X hood open using a simple 9V battery. No need for the big power supply...

Great video as always! Fun Fact Dave…You can drag a fifth control shortcut icon on the app by dragging it to the very edge of your phone screen.

You could service mode to ensure the 12volt battery is at the correct voltage.

How old was original battery? Seems like it died way too soon.
@theonlyjkyang2 ай бұрын
The date was literally on the battery. It look like it was original to the car from 2019 according to the sticker. 12v batteries in teslas can die pretty much anytime. I’ve seen them last 4+ years and I’ve seen them die in 6 months.

Vehicle batteries in hot climates last about 2 years or so.

Could you have installed the new Lithium-Ion low voltage battery in your Tesla instead of the old 12 volt acid battery?
@tommckinney14892 ай бұрын
Thanks, Dave. Now, what about those 16V batteries? Hopefully they last a looooong time.

Basic Toyota design error. The 12V battery is charged by the transmission battery. The 12volt battery supports features such as door locking, the computer etc when the doors are locked and you walk away from it. The 12v battery is 350Ah which is quite small capacity and is constantly being drained all the time. It is charged by the traction battery CONTINUOUSLY until the traction battery also goes flat. The “cure” in the design would have been either to fit a larger capacity 12V battery or rely more on mechanical features of design for the security of the vehicle. Unfortunately the hybrid system does seem to need a computer to deal with the relationship between the mechanical and electrical energy required to propel the car; however; on my previous two Yaris cars before the Mark 5 which I now have…..there was never a 12V battery issue, and I was quite content to turn a key to lock my car doors, rather than press a bottom.

Do you need to tell the computer that there is a new battery installed like on ice vehicle? So the battery charging is done properly. On old and new batteries it will be done differently.

Why not an AGM or lithium battery replacement?
@7z92 ай бұрын
Onboard DC/DC converter (LV 'charger") needs to keep the battery at its parameters. It assumes it's lead-acid and would damage just a common Li-Ion battery. And the Li-Ion *lead-acid" replacement I would not trust tbh. It would have to be expensive with well designed BMS to be a quality solution...

There was such a 3rd party product. They don't sell it anymore due to incompatibility problems.

It seemed like the original Tesla battery was replaced as this is not the OEM battery. Also, your original OEM battery should have been replaced under warranty unless you’ve past your 50k miles. Isn’t it too early for this 12v battery to fail? I replaced my 2018 model 3 with a lithium one, only for Tesla to push an update disabling aftermarket lithium 12v batteries. Tesla was nice enough to give me a warranty replacement for another 12v lead acid battery free of charge.

WHY? would a Tesla's 12 v battery Die?? My wife's Acura ' 12 v Battery lived for 16 years without a single hiccup (I only swapped it out 'preventatively) Dealer stated that was a typ lifespan for the Acuras. Lead acid battery life is due the quality (or lack of) of the vehicles charging system) Astounding that a Techno Marvel Tesla has a Clearlty Shite 12 battery charge /maintenance system.
@7z92 ай бұрын
It's just a generic lead-acid battery, they just die. New Tesla's use Li-Ion LV Batteries now (at least all refresh S/X 2021+ and 3 highland, not sure of Y)
@dvader32632 ай бұрын
The 12 volt lead acid battery in those older Teslas are the same as every other 12 volt lead acid battery in the 1.5 billion cars on Earth. In hot climates, batteries last only 2 or 3 years or so. Batteries are like people. They have varying lifespans.

Appears to be good at killing the 12V lead battery. Currently have had to replace it 3 times in the last 5 Years on an old M3
@7z92 күн бұрын
@@Tuuminshz might be just wrong with your car. 3 times in 5 years is a lot...
@Tuuminshz2 күн бұрын
@7z9 Yeah, believe its something wrong with recharging and just the overall usage, (still haven't been able to fully figure it out) slowly killing the 12V battery. Although not as often it's somewhat comforting to know others are encountering similar issues on their old models
