Under the direction of IFD Special Ops Division Chief Kevin Jones, 14 IFD Firefighters successfully completed the 40 hour Confined Space Rescuer Operations/Technician class with the final day of evolutions held today at the Eli Lilly Fire Rescue Station.
The chance to use the Lilly space was provided by Chief Jeff Vanderwal - Eli Lilly Fire Rescue - and is a long standing partnership with IFD. Students were able to use skills learned throughout the week in a new environment which presented multiple challenges and opportunities for critical thinking.
With confined space emergencies, 60% of would be rescuers become victims. IFD's mission with this training is to identify the hazards and prepare for rescue operations.
