Few things to add: - 0:29 honestly no need to reduce the battery to 25% if you know what you're doing - 1:14 should mention use Philips #1 screwdriver - 1:53 not need to completely remove the foil cover, only pull it just enough to access the screw. Later can easily put it back - 2:03 should mention use Philips #0 screwdriver to take out the cover - 2:30 can simply slide the shielding off the SSD and insert it to the new one, since SSD is generally same size - 4:59 should mention to plug in the charger first to turn on the Steam Deck since previously set as Battery Storage mode

People who "know what they are doing" don't need this video. it's a good piece of precautionary advice.
@shadowzephyrX Жыл бұрын
@@hastyscorpion You probably misunderstood. The sentence is referring to depleting the battery. If we do carefully enough such as ensuring not to accidently puncture the battery, no kids around to disturb us etc, then there's no need to deplete it. Those who are used to open small device e.g. laptop, phone etc still find this kind of video useful if it's their first time opening Steam Deck. Only the part on depleting battery is not really necessary.
@shadowzephyrX Жыл бұрын
@@hastyscorpion Having said that, it's just my opinion. I myself didn't deplete the battery when first time opening the SD, and I don't see any reason to do so since I know what I'm doing (e.g. lock the door, do in clean room etc, think SD as a very delicate device etc). Ofc I'm the one who takes the blame if any issue occurs, not others. But I stand corrected on my opinion. I'm sure lot's of others did the same. If you / others still prefer to deplete it as suggested in the video, that's your choice and it's definitely better.

*IMPORTANT* If yours doesn’t say gpt and says mbr your fine it doesn’t matter as long as it’s properly formatted to fat 32 your fine. Also if you get stuck on the steam reinstallation update for hours and it keeps reinstalling and saying error it might be downloading multiple updates so be patient and keep doing it until it automatically reboots itself. Now if you don’t get that outcome and you got an installation stuck at 1second before finishing and stays there for a while try switching to a different internet or switch from 5g to 2 and if not that try a hot spot and then retry the installation and it should completely finish and reboot. Yeah, most assume people already have the idea that changing a hard drive/ssd on a PC requires a new OS image, since the new one usually comes empty. i was unable to remove the motherboard cover due to the screwdriver wearing down the screw. But lucky me u can just push outwards the cover after removing the 2 other screws.

Can it be done even from the 64GB EMMC model?

2:13 My battery pulltab is glued underneath the battery. I can't even get it out with a spudger because the pulltab is now working like a teather that doesn't let the plug move far enough to leave the socket. I shouldn't have risked it, but luckily I was still able to successfully do the swap with the battery still partially plugged in

FYI: if you strip a screw it takes significantly longer than 20 minutes😄 thankfully a rubber band saved me.

This is the first time I followed this tutorial to change an SSD for a Steam Deck. I have replaced one before with no problems but after following this guide the only difference is the battery storage mode and no matter how many ways I try to get it to wake back up it refuses. No LED, No sounds, Left on the original charger for days, and yes I have tried the million different button combos to wake it up. Even reopened it, disconnected the battery, reconnected it, etc. Put the old SSD card in. Literally nothing. This has completely bricked my device and I am so frustrated I am down so much money over a simple fix. Is there any way I can get some help or anything??

Instead of using a USB C dongle, can i dock my deck to the official steam deck dock and plug the USB stick into the dock for recovery?

Does anyone recommend using an anti-static wrist strap while doing this?
@RubicksProductions Жыл бұрын
Unless you're working on something like carpet and constantly moving your feet around it shouldn't be needed. Just make sure to ground yourself on something metal prior to touching anything internal and don't get back up until the job is done. If you do have to get up you will have to re-ground yourself again before touching the steam deck.

no you dont need it

I've been tearing apart electronics and computers for most of my life and have never used a wrist strap. That said, if you are in a static shock prone area, might be a good idea.

Getting the battery ribbon out on mine seemed stuck because way part of it was jammed in between battery so it wouldn’t slide out as easy as some videos will show in just one direction. Also I first used a Sandisk cruiser 32 usb that was a few years old that was 3.0 but it fails loading so just use a newer one because this is also a reported problem that some older ones will just fail trying to load and get stuck.

Can use ANY memory device with at least 8gb storage. I used a mini sd card I had plugged into my jsaux steam deck dock and booted it using that. 65gb to 1Tb just like that

I’m one the “Loading New OS on to SSD and Recovery Process” step but I can’t plug in my usb because my steam deck won’t stay on if it’s not plugged into the charger. What do I do?

Do a full recovery, I'm prettig sure that Valve support will guide and help you. What product did you use to clean it? Also have you touched or removed any ribbon cable? You might have damaged them... If I were you I would open it, check all the button cables you might have touched these while cleaning so pull them out en reconnect them.

After installing the SSD, connect the USB, then the power. The SteamDeck won't need to be manually booted to the USB, but it will do it on its own since there isn't a bootable partition on the new SSD.

OPTIONAL: flash image to micro SD card and dedicate that micro SD card to future repairs. very compatible and much faster than USB.
@jsepe935611 ай бұрын
How do you do that?
@silentdenizen690311 ай бұрын
@jsepe9356 a micro sd to usb adapter. Or put it in a dedicated sd card slot with a micro sd to sd adapter. Or a type C port with a micro sd to type c adapter. It should have been obvious. And obviously use rufus.
