Huawei Mate Xs Teardown: The Most Durable Foldable Yet?

It’s only April, somehow, and we’ve already done teardowns on two foldable phones this year! Now we’ve got our hands on a third, the Huawei Mate Xs. Unlike the other foldables we’ve seen, the Mate Xs wears its fragile plastic OLED screen on the outside, even when folded.
The Mate Xs isn’t sold in the US and can’t utilize any of Google’s mobile services without a little hacking. Instead, Huawei has built their own suite of services, including an App Gallery and Mobile Cloud service. No Play Store here! Let’s tear it down and see what else Huawei has done to make this $2,700 foldable tick.

Not just Samsung but Motorola razr, flex pie, galaxy fold, z flip .. all have fragile af displays and can easily damaged even tho if they fold inwards now imagine mate x😂

I'm sure it only has to do with battery calibration between the two batteries. B1=Battery One, B2=Battery Two.

when i used to work at a repair shop, i always hated changing huawei batteries because of the risk of cracking the screen if applied too much force, stain the screen because of too much alcohol, burning the screen or the battery because of too much heat... like 40 minutes per battery cause of the amont of glue applied!!

I don’t see how to repair the phone. You can take it apart, but you never be able to use the same parts again to fit it all back together. That’s what I miss. Old technology was so easy to take apart and reassemble again. Over and over.

I remember Huawei lock down the bootloader of those devices so no way to put in a custom ROM. There are software ways to put in some Play services on the devices however its based on loopholes and last I heard Google is stomping it down.

the issue is that it takes a long time and introduces risk of damage to surrounding components due to the force needed :/

Score is only 2 ? WTF. You can replace most of the things without removing the screen. If you want to replace the screen then its possible, but then its something wrong with you for dropping $2000 smartphone in first place. And when you replacing battery, it does not matter if the old battery will stay in perfect condition. It should get at least 7-8 out of 10, because of the glue.

I would not buy this piece of Chinese phone, even the battery is hard to remove which is the most common component that is being replaced. Luckily Huawei is losing costumers due the missing Google software.

I think you should consider it! If not for your wallet, then for the planet. (To produce less waste: A battery in the waste is less then a whole phone thrown away. Especially if you consider the enviromental impact of creating such new technologies. For example: Under 30% of all fordable displays manufactured works correctly. The other 70+ percent is basically waste. Am I wrong?)
