Not me doing bush trips on microsoft flight simulator while watching this

LOL, after 31 years of flying and 25 of those in jets, the few times I fire up flight simulator, I’m doing the exact same thing as you: Bush flying. 🤣🤣
@spencermadden69108 ай бұрын
Really great advice! I did the same thing and it made my instrument checkride an absolute breeze. During my training, any time I shot an approach in real life that I wasn’t happy with, I would re-do the approach on the simulator until I could basically do it with my eyes closed lol

Another thing that might be helpful is the vatsim network (Virtual Air Traffic Simulator). Learning to do the procedural and communicative portions of the flight while having someone actually acting as ATC without being in the real plane is super helpful and can make the experience even more realistic. They have vatsim for xplane and msfs

Flight sim is amazing for instrument rating. Its just way cheaper and quicker to fly a bunch of different approaches in the sim than to do it in a plane. Also use a plane with the same or similar avionics to the ones youre training in and it will be even easier to load approaches in the plane.

I remember when i did a discovery flight, with years of flight sim. The flight instructor asked if i was lying about never flying. I told him my story of how i learned. He told me that at my current skill set it should be a breeze to obtain a PPL. Too bad im poor af

I’ve also found that turning the fog all the way up kinda forces you to use the instruments. If anybody is having trouble with looking up give it a shot.

Me too. At it 3 yrs and not half way through it and burned 25k and 70 hrs already. No one seems to be able to teach in a way that makes it clear or make sense. I am about to quit. Everyone is telling me the same including the CFII and Chief CFI. Sat through a commercial course, seems like a slightly different ppl. Easier actually. And sat in back through a few flight training lessons for multi add on. No so bad. Just this IFR crap. Problem is I Follow Roads often. Haha

Saved me a lot of money flying approaches time and time again for ZERO DOLLARS with any condition you want to program in. Just a great way to save money and get way more proficient at just a program cost. Still use it today. if I am flying into an airport I never have before. I do it on the screen and get used to it so it’s in real life it’s not so strange.

Couldn't agree more. Practice makes perfect. And you get confortable with the instruments in IFR condition. Besides the fact that using a pc sim it's harder to use switches and dials, you can practice landing in 0 visibility and check a bit later how off you actually were 😅. Last hundred meters are the hardest

rly rly good advice tip Ethan !!. not cheesy.. Yes I'd do it too if when I get to Instr. I heard read USNavy started use some sim sw think was MSFS for brand new trainees at Pensacola starting their flt trng... this was about 10 so yrs ago if remember correctly. So if Navy does it I'm gonna do it. Can only help , save u valuable time, esp $$$ too ..make u better. I'd do it even for Ppl to learn preview every ap all around my area or esp for Xctry flts to ap getting ready for Ppl check ride.

I've just been using World Flight on my Oculus to understand using power vs. pitch. You fly over google Maps so you can fly to whatever runways you want. It only has an ASI and altimeter but it fairly accurate and in VR it gives you the true aspect of altitude. Good luck landing!😂
@rtbrtb_dutchy41838 ай бұрын
Please use power for airspeed and pitch for altitude, unless a fixed power setting. A lot of instructors of small airplanes teach the other way around, but it’s just them being lazy. (Or not trained properly)
@Food.Dog.Car.8 ай бұрын

@@ozelot250 weird, I explained in a long response and now it’s not here.
@rtbrtb_dutchy41838 ай бұрын
@@ozelot250 I did responded before. Maybe it was too long? Pitch always controls altitude and power controls airspeed, unless you have a fixed power setting. Auto pilots use pitch to maintain altitude and glide paths. Auto thrust maintain speed. This should also be utilized when you fly a small aircraft. When you are on a glide path and you are high, you pitch down to intercept. If the speed changes, you adjust the power. When you do steep turns, you use pitch to maintain altitude. Then when the speed start to drop, you add power to maintain speed. Instructors who teach pitch for airspeed and power for altitude are either lazy or were trained by a lazy pilot.
