IFR Practice: RNAV Simulated Instrument Approach to Syracuse Airport

Now that I've completed my private pilot training, I'm working on my IFR instrument rating. This is a practice GPS RNAV-Z approach to Runway 10 at Syracuse International Airport (KSYR) in Syracuse, NY.

The glasses I'm wearing (, known as "Foggles", prevent me from being able to see out the windows and eliminates any reference I have to the ground or horizon. This simulates what it's like flying through clouds, which obscures your vision and eliminates ground and horizon references. While I'm wearing the goggles, all I can see is the instrument panel gauges in front of me and I'm not able to see out the windows until I take off the glasses a few seconds before landing. The "minimums", or decision altitude, for this particular approach, is 200 FT AGL (above ground level), so when I take off the foggles, I'm only 200 feet above the runway.

This was flown in my club's Piper Cherokee 180 (PA-28-180) which is based at the Canandaigua Airport (KIUA) in Canandaigua, NY which is in the Finger Lakes region just outside of Rochester, NY.
