You've gotta connect me sister. I'm a Black American and I discovered that my paternal ancestry comes directly from the Igbo people. I want to learn about my culture and my language but I don't know exactly where to start. But I figure some good friends form our tribe would help. It would be incomplete without knowing my people. Knowing of us simply isn't enough.
@r.rockellg7 жыл бұрын
Buffalo New Yorker I wouldn't bother. They sold you off to the Europeans in the first place. They still to this day thing African Americans are below them because they are not "slaves" .
@AlMahdi2k7 жыл бұрын
Its more complicated than that. There are plenty of our relatives who see us as extensions of themselves. You have different points of view so you link with those who share your perspective. I've talk to enough Blacks from West Africa to know its not cut an dry. You're argument is far to simple to take seriously.
@p90xkp7 жыл бұрын
Buffalo New Yorker that's cool that you're discovering your roots. If you know of any Caribbean background in your family, search that island's history; they're more detailed. S. Carolina, for example, was a direct link from Barbados which has alot of Igbo roots. Jamaica has major Igbo roots, too. Jesus bless you and your search! 👍

I'm sorry but this lesson is so messy! What you were saying wasn't matching the words on the screen. Also, although you somewhat slowed down the pronunciation, it was still too fast and not clear for beginners and non igbo speakers. You are acting as if you just say the sentence quickly it will be just simple to repeat. The tones and diction can be quite challenging. If you are serious about teaching this language, please be more considerate and thorough with the teaching process.

Olee ebe or kedu ebe or ebee ka, they still means one thing: Where is. I am not saying that your written Igbo is wrong but you should write what you say so it won't confuse your students. Off course this is the basic Igbo and you should take note of your mistakes, it is not the tough ones that confuses, example: Egbe and Egbe (eagle and gun) , Igbo and igbo (Igbo-tribe and Marijuana) , akwa and akwa (egg and cloth or cry or bed) though I do not have the Igbo keyboard to write it well and differentiate them with signs. Let me give you assignment, translate these in Igbo language: 1. He is crying. 2. He is cutting cloth. 3. He is cooking egg. 4. He is smelling egg.

I am taking your class and was wondering if you could do some phonetics or rules of the Igbo language. I noticed that some letter are silent are have different sounds such as the phrase Thank you = IME KA or NDOO which sounds like "Dallow" to me. Another phrase Where are you from? =EBEE KA SI ? Sounds like you start with the KA then head back to the EBEE. African Jewel if you could help me out that would be great.

Thanks for the much-needed effort to revive Igbo language. Do note however that there is nothing like "Ibo" language. The correct word is "Igbo" and designates both the language and the owners of the language. "Ibo" is a corrupted Europeanized version of the original word. Besides, the lesson is hardly organized and may confuse an average learner. Your spoken and written forms are miles apart. Do not be discouraged by the criticisms though. They come from love for what you're doing and a wish for you to excel. Blessings.

You have tried but you need to work on your screen write up so that it can rhythm and correlate with what you are saying. Am from Taraba State and will like to learn and master Igbo's phonology. Hope here will be the right place to visit.

I too really appreciate your efforts here. You are speaking fast, but that's what the pause/rewind buttons are for LOL. I also think it's great that you speak the Anambra dialect, esp in it's natural conversational cadence and accent... I think it's much easier to learn conversational Igbo the way that you are teaching it , by teaching common phrases. I also think Anambara Igbo is the sexier dialect IMHO. Also there are some of us with Igbo parents from Anambra who are more interested in picking up conversational Igbo as opposed to learning how to read and write it formally..... as others have mentioned Igbo is an extremely difficult language to learn as an adult, and with all the different stresses and and having to string words together, it's very difficult to learn formally (reading, writing, grammar, verb conjugation, verb tenses, etc) if you're not already a native speaker, which I am not. Plus, to learn it formally would mean to learn Central dialect... (at least that's what it meant for me when I purchased a language book online) which is not the dialect that my family speaks so there's a disconnect in what I'm trying to learn on paper versus what is actually being spoken in the home. ... I will say though that it is confusing that what you're pronouncing and your written translations are not lining up so there's some room for improvement there...but still, please keep these videos coming!!🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏽👏🏽

AFA M BỤ is the correct way to write "my name is" in Igbo language. AFAM BU is not only an adulteration of the language , but it carries entirely different meaning. AFAM BU actually means: AFAM CARRIES. That is to say, somebody called Afam carries something on his/her head may be. Thanks though for your effort.

Nice job, African Jewel. Keep up the good work in promoting Igbo language. A few tips, however: It should be pronounced "Igbo" not "Ibo." Good morning should be "Ị̀ bọọla chi?, Ị̀ saala chi, or Ndeewo. Some Igbo dialects say, "Maa mma," or "Maazi." These are the ones you will here when you walk in the streets. Ụtụtụ ọma is a mere word for word translation of "Good" and "Morning." Just as you know, it sounds funny when you translate Good night as "Abalị ọma;" but the correct one is, "Ka chi foo" or "Ka chi bọọ." Languages behave differently. I love your work, anyway. Keep it up.

I think lesson one should be the letters and the phonic sounds. because when you pronounce the words they do not match some of the letters that is written on the screen. I love your enthusiasm and I hope you continue to make these videos. Is there a book on the Igbo language available for purchase? I am going to check out Amazon, but this is a line of business you could consider.

Learning Igbo It's like trying to learn Chinese. It's so hard . The easiest language for anyone to learn in Africa is Shona from Zimbabwe which is structured just like English alphabetically . Very easy to pronounce any word. Even if you have never learnt shona you can read it straight away as long as you can read english . You might not understand what you are reading but thats a start .

I just want to know if you have another clip that helps with pronunciations of some of the Igbo words. I am trying to keep up by reading the texts on screen as I listen to you in the video but I noticed that you dont pronounce some words or letters especially the part of the bridge. I figured it might be that am not pronouncing them right. Please help. Looking forward to hear from you God bless.
