Having lived outside Nigeria for a while. I see the colorism thing as well. Black is beautiful regardless of the shade. I am more of a believer that personality, integrity and how you treat people matters more than looks. The most beautiful person is ugly if they have a terrible character and is unkind while a not so physically good looking person is beautiful because they have a nice personality, kind and relatable.

I agree that every tribe has both beautiful and ugly, and not so good lucking. Obviously i'm igbo, so might sound biased. I'm based in london, mixed myself. Lived in Nigeria for 10 years. And i have to say, personally that igbo girls are much better looking than yoruba girls. There are more beautiful girls than there are yoruba. Others might say that fulani have the best looking girls, debateable. I myself don't like girls that are just skinny. So hey, each has their own views.

But the beauty fades quicker. Most Igbo women are not beautiful over 40
@samuelomos12345 ай бұрын
Beauty is not about skin colour bro, why do you think some Igbo men are marrying Yoruba black women if they are indeed not beautiful, most people think beauty has to do with light skin, light skin, light skin, even JESUS was dark skin and he was loved all over the world.
@musicearthtoheaven87932 жыл бұрын
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Facially, how do we know if someone is truly beautiful? It's kind of ignorant or very subjective that some people now automatically equate light skin to beautiful, but beautiful also comes in other colors and shades. I've heard before to imagine a light skinned person in dark skin, and if he or she is still beautiful, then that person is truly beautiful and it's not just the light color that makes them appear beautiful. I've tried to picture some light-skinned people as dark-skinned and in dark skin, their features became more noticeable, and surprisingly for some people, it revealed that light complexion was actually making their not so beautiful features less noticeable - light skin was making them look more beautiful than they really are. There were even some people who, when imagined in dark skin, looked more beautiful than in light skin - their truly beautiful features were even more pronounced and noticeable in dark skin! Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 😉

When Yoruba people say Omo Yibo. It can mean a lot of things. and most of the times are what Yoruba considered negative trait even if they are not negative in most cases. They are cultural differences. For example, a Yoruba lady can greet an elder by bending or kneeling while an igbo girl may be on her feet greeting an elderly person. The elderly man or woman can say hmm omo Yibo. whcih can mean 'she's pardoned' or 'her action is not considered rude' since she's not a Yoruba girl? But on the negative side, it can also mean that she's uncultured and rude. Just like you said, it depends on what expression they show. Also if a Yoruba trade with a terrible igbo man or woman that in the end cheated the Yoruba person. A Yoruba parent can say 'Omo Yibo' that is, they are not surprised since it is an igbo person who cheated on you.

ABOUT YOUR REQUEST IN 7:02 After the civil war, I feel like the ibos felt betrayed by the yorubas during the War. Maybe they felt the yorubas where complicit to the northern majority govt as at then in trying to annahilate their entire tribe during the war. And ever since the war, there has never been like a nationally publicised show or event by boththe Southwest and Northern region to explain things and reconcile for the destructive parts they both played in the war against the igbos, so the igbos are still annoyed and they express it because they are being taught about it, and the yorubas react aggressively because they were never taught about it and never understand the war and the role they played in hurting very immensely the igbos for choosing to exercise their right to self determination. They still carry on this grudge also and Ever since then they've taught to posterity both consciously and unconsciously to maybe despise each other. I'm yoruba myself and just like you I struggle to understand why I get shunned by my family from befriending igbos, not to mention dating and marrying an Igbo girl.

It always happens to me as well, and I am a complete Yoruba woman whose lineage is completely Yoruba on all sides. The ibos always enjoy bringing Yorubas down, and they believe they can say anything to our faces without any caution, not realising that our creator is also listening to it all. I thought very well about it all and I was only able to conclude that, it is not because it is true but because they are mostly possessed with the spirit of jealousy towards Yoruba. They possess very bad minds towards Yoruba, and their hearts have been eaten up by the spirit of jealousy completely towards Yoruba people. Some ibo women are light-complexioned, but it usually come with masculine personalities, strong faces, deep voices, and things like that, which I don't term to be an interpretation of beauty for women. Most Yoruba people possess the nature of gentility and meekness and our cultural heritage of displaying humility in the way we are brought up to address people or greet people, these virtues are priceless. These are components of true beauty, spiritually, psychologically, and physically. I am glad I am a Yorubanian🦚👑🇳🇬 and I keep it that way❤.

Isn't a lot of this rooted in colorism. They say igbos are light so they think they are prettier. Same with putting shuwa arabs and fulanis over the rest because of their pointy noses and softer or longer hair.
@lizzyekene1370 Жыл бұрын
The most beautiful women are from the northern and Eastern part of Nigeria. There's no argument about that. That's why most of the powerful northern elites are married to igbo women. When they say beautiful, you can walk into an interior bush village in the north and the eastern part of Nigeria to find naturally beautiful women. Beautiful skin tone, perfect shape of face and figure, rich toned hair edges with no aesthetics or any form of civilization. Both regions (North & east) have a lot of light skinned natural beauties. Other tribes don't even come close. Look at nollywood for instance, most of the beautiful actresses are igbo girls and especially from imo state. So davido wasn't wrong.

But by 40 it’s over for an Igbo woman. They age very quickly. For instance Chioma akpotha, Uche jumbo. These women look old in real life compared to someone like omotola. It’s the reason why igbo men like younger women because there women age very quickly. I know so many that were very beautiful in their 20s and 30s but by the time they get into 40s they start looking old and fat. The only exception is Bianca ojukwu
@lizzyekene13708 ай бұрын
@lola2659 omotola looks like a 59 years old woman for her young age. Technically uche jumbo and chioma akpotha are older than her. We all know how omotola got married at a very early age. She's now looking older than eucharia who's in her 60s. Igbo women age gracefully.
