I know it is a bit taboo or offensive in some context's, but could you possibly make a video on if there any correct uses of "Goo" and "Mung". I know casually you can use them with friends only if you are close friends to mean "I" and "you" respectively. I was just wondering if there were any non offensive uses of the words! Kawb Khun Krab!!

Why does แล have a midtone and และ a high tone, both have a live ending and no tone mark?
@IgetThais2 жыл бұрын
ล is a low-class consonant and แ is a long vowel. ล แ = แล (live syllables) make a flat tone. On the other hand, และ, แ-ะ vowel is a short sound. ล แ-ะ = และ(dead syllables) makes a high tone. low-class consonants with live syllables can do 3 tones flat tone แล, falling tone แล่ and high tone แล้. แล แล่ แล้. Dead syllables can do 3 tones as well but the initial sound is in high tone และ, falling tone แล่ะ and rising tone แล๋ะ. และ แล่ะ แล๋ะ

1:52 I thought “My Ek” (the vertical line above Sara Eee) indicated low tone, but you describe this word to be a falling tone.. I’m wondering why? (By the way, I love your videos but I’m just a little confused)
@IgetThais Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct. The tone of "ไม้เอก" (mái èk) represents a low tone, but when it combines with different classes of consonants, such as the mid class, high class, or low class, it can produce other tones based on specific rules. For example, let's take the word "เทียว" (tiaw). The initial consonant "ท" is a low class consonant, and when combined with the vowel sara เ-ีย and the final consonant ว, it becomes "เทียว" (tiaw) without a tone mark. In this word, the initial sound "tiaw" carries a flat tone (which is the default tone for low class consonants). Additionally, live syllables (sonorant sounds) can make 3 tones, - a flat tone(without a tone mark), - falling tone with mái èk (-่) and - a high tone with mái toh(- ้), but it cannot make any words with - a low tone and - a falling tone. So when the word เทียว(tiaw) added mái èk (-่) it makes a falling tone as เที่ยว tîaw. If you're still feeling confused, I recommend watching the video on my channel titled "Thai Tone Rule." In that video, I explain the rules in more detail, and you can also find a downloadable PDF tone rule chart in the description box. This resource will provide you with a visual guide to better understand Thai tones.

Many Thais don't know this. I only found out a few years ago when my father was talking to his friend.
