Let's look at what we know about Cavill so far: He can ACT - The Tudors He looks like Superman - Like he leaped off Jim Lee's comic book pages He has Superman's voice - deep and commanding but also that nice guy feeling He seems like a nice guy. He's reading up on the comics. He's working out. He respects the character and is genuinely excited to play him. I think he'll make an excellent Superman.

I think Cavill is a good choice for the new Superman movie. Although I am a huge Tom Welling fan I think having a fresh face and a more mature take on the story would be a nice change. Tom Welling played the best Clark Kent depicting superman in his early years and I am sure after playing this character for 10 years Tom deserves a break and an opportunity to pursue other projects on the big screen. I am looking forward to the new movie.

I love Henry Cavill he's aweome... I also hear he was Stephanie Myers personal choice to be Edward Cullen in the Twilight films but by the time they went into post production he was too old for the role... thank god for that!!!!! :)

I was tickled pink when they announced that he was going to play big blue. I remember a few years ago when I first saw him The Count of Monte Cristo, I remember thinking "Damn, if he was a little bit older he'd be perfect as Superman". So imagine my delight to actually see that come to pass.

@Boschboy I must disagree. Brandon Routh was not the problem with Superman Returns. The story, the feel, the blandness was what was wrong with the movie. Routh did a fine job with the material given to him. In the end, the problem was that the movie was a downer...which is the LAST thing a Superman movie should be.

Just something I'd like to put out there to anyone complaining about the fact that he's British and hoping he'll "lose the accent". I'm sure he'll adopt an American accent for the role. But he won't and can't "lose" his British one. Everyone else in the world isn't just putting on an accent to sound different and yours is the only neutral, normal way to speak. Just a personal gripe. And look at that man's face. He's superman, goddamnit. Dem cheekbones.

The nationality of the actor doesn't matter. It's the job of the filmmakers to find the best actors for the role, and to a lot of fans, even dating back to the Superman Returns days, he was the consensus fan favorite. And as others have pointed out, the actor being American doesn't matter because Superman isn't even American; he's an alien raised in America. The only people who seem to care about this are hardcore patriots.

He really doesn't look like Christopher Reeve, which was the general goal with the last Superman Movie in 2006 if memory serves, and with Smallville. He does have that classic chiseled jaw at least, and I know you can look a hell of a lot different with make up on etc, but at the moment in this early stage, i'm having a hard time picturing him playing the part.

I think Henry is the closest version to superman there will be, if anyone has seen the spy photos he has the build and just because Chistopher Reeve was the first 'movie' superman it dosn't necessarily mean he was the best. I didn't think they cast Henry because he looked like Reeve, he just looks the part, probably same as the people who cast Reeve.

@eelsevilla why is the idea of a reboot bad for Superman? They don't want to use Richard Donner's continuity or do another imitation of his style. A reboot gives them the opportunity to construct their own continuity with its own distinct vision of the character, not to mention telling their own version of one of the greatest origin stories ever. It's taking a classic hero and giving him a fresh start. Do you honestly think building off of Superman Returns would've been a better decision?

I actually think he looks pretty good. When he has that somewhat stern look near the end of this vid you can really imagine the S curl in the hair and everything. I just hope his acting is up to par.

Anyone who complains about his accent being British.. It's why he's called an "ACTOR". He can do an American accent for the character and in several movies has proven he can in fact do a convincing one. Even still, he can finetune it during production. And anyone complaining about him being British in the first place.. Who cares? Superman is an immigrant anyway and the American dream can belong to anyone who believes in freedom. So STFU. Cavill will be awesome as Superman!

@Halobolu I avoided Smallville for years because of that stereotype, that it's a ghey teen, drama, soap about relationships. When I ran out of TV shows to watch, I gave it a chance, and it is a good show. The love aspect of Smallville isn't fabricated. It's officially a new part of the Superman story that it's based on. Honestly, it's a fairly realistic depiction of Superman's upbringing by the Kent family. Smallville is nothing like those shitty teen soaps, it's 80% Superman, 20% Love Story.

Absolutely man the american interviewers all over have been slating it saying about being an american Icon.thing is when we do it Superman and batman we do it well unlike Robin hood and just about every other british hero hollywood has ruined. Everyone slated Dan Craig before he was bond and turned out to be the best Bond ever. So give this guys a chance everyone. @eelsevilla This is poor reasoning. Maybe to you heroes like Batman and Superman are shallow action heroes, but they're also characters who need proper characterization, starting with their origins. It's lazy to just assume everyone knows who they are & therefore aren't worthy of origin stories (that's just cheap characterization), but it greatly contributes to the the audience's understanding of who they are & why they should care. Their origins are great stories, they deserve to be told.

I'd like to see Cavill play Bond once Daniel Craig leaves, MGM want's Craig to do another 5 moves, if he accepts assuming each Bond would be released within 2 years of one another Craig would be 54 by the time he finishes, Henry then would be 39. Now if we assume it takes about 2-4 years for MGM to release the next film after Craig's era is over, Henry would be somwhere between 41-43, which would be a perfect age for him to play Bond.

@HannibalXKarma if you had the choice of continuing the franchise in the spirit of Donner's films & continuity, or scrapping it & reintroducing the character with new characterization, chronology and vision, which would you choose? Some reboots aren't necessary. Batman was necessary because each film kept getting progressively worse. With Superman only 2/4 were decent, and after waiting 20 years to do a 5th, they produced a film that was just treading old ground. A reboot was necessary.

@bulletprooth A lot of American sounding characters are played by Brits, espec in Nolan's films. Look at Bale, he sounded completely american in Dark Knight.

@XxTigrexxX I understand, but even as a bigger Marvel fan than a DC fan, I'll have to bow out on this one. DC's characters are a little more refined because they haven't avoided drastic character changes that reinvent their personas as heroes and people. Marvel is more commercial and DC is more artistic, they're both great in different ways, but seriously though... Batman is more complex than Iron Man, but that's because Batman has gone through generations of different stories, imo.

Especially since they've never even called him Superman in the show. And this movie will be called Superman . . . so, no Superman is a comic book character.
