My biggest tip is that sometimes less units is better, especially in some of the ring paralogues. One insanely powerful unit is a lot better than numerous mid tier units. When you're in a really tough battle you need to minimize liability. In general you need at least two overpowered units to cause enemy turns to result in kills for your team. Tldr: the Protagonist and Yunaka can handle almost the entire game.

The arena is better for highest leveled character as the exp is % based and can be the best way to level your strongest person that doesn't gain much xp anymore.

ho to farm gold and exp, do skirmish battles, after all are done, move the clock of your switch to the next day, get back in the game, have a loading screen and go on the wolrdmap, skrimish and training battles should be there again, repeat util you have enough gold
