My Father works for Mojang.. Mojang is doing this because of the huge influx of complaints regarding scamming over the past year or so.. Like you said, the market has really blown up over the past 2 years in terms of OG's and Minecon Capes.. The problem is, there is really no real SAFE or legit way to do these transactions for most people(many of these people are kids), even with "middle men", as I have seen COUNTLESS people get scammed even when using middle men.. The the process is incredibly shady.. After the transaction, you literally have to trust the person to hand over emails, passwords, codes.. And this is all done electronically without any type of real protection legally. Mojang has had MULTIPLE lawsuits come at them due to these scams and people losing large amounts of money. Therefore, its been in the works for a long time to stop cape codes and the sale of accounts. As we have all seen, MANY accounts are being locked by Mojang recently. According to my Father, this will only continue to get worse. I have had offers in the THOUSANDS for my account which has both of the Mojang Staff Capes.. Its technically my Dad's account but he gave it to me pretty much since the beginning since he doesnt really play Minecraft. Whenever I log onto my main I get harassed by kids making offer on the account. But its an account of only like 15-20 in the world with both Mojang Staff Capes.. I wont be selling anytime soon that is for sure, and my dad would probably kill me if I did. lol

My dad is not any of the well known names in Mojang tho, so that should help you narrow it down even further. My dad works for Mojang.. New codes issued thru Mojang sponsored event will work. It is the old cape codes that were all disabled. Now, it is possible that next years event will cease to give out the capes now, but that is still being debated. Mojang is having issues with people getting scammed and blaming Mojang for not policing the market. And I get it, The Cape and OG market is super shady and scummy, and people get scammed everyday. Mojang wants to put a stop to this. They may alter how capes are distributed as so they cannot be sold.

But if you know a lot about Mojang's History and their staff, you may be able to figure out who it is or at least narrow it down.. He does hold 1 of the original 14 Mojang Staff accounts. Also, I dont share his last name as my mother and my Father separated when I was 3 years old and I took on my Step-Fathers name. He still lives in Sweden and I am in the UK with my mother. I still see him quite a lot tho. From what I understand, he was 1 of only about 20 people who stayed with Mojang after the sale, which is why his account is so rare having both staff capes. I think his account is 1 of 10 Staff accounts to have both capes.

I have a 2016 cape from a friend who went to the convention. It’s weird because I sit there and wonder if I ever could’ve been able to get more capes on that account. But now I know I can’t and I will be disappointed but just be happy with my solo rare account with a cape that matches my skin. I’d prefer a 2012 but that’s ok.

I’m so glad I found this video I have been actively part of the OG community for 2 years. And I can say this is monumental and the community is obviously shook by this event. I knew multiple people who were actively trying to get other capes on there accounts. I’m glad too see this patch actually. I hope this makes the community better but knowing the toxicity of the community , this won’t go over easy. I was on blockmania last month and a worker at Mojang said that they will be soon cracking down on cape code buyers. I told a couple of my friends about this and they didn’t think much about this. But I knew a Mojang staff member wouldn’t lie about something like this. Anyways great video keep it up 👍 very entertaining!

They removed it because they want people to actually go to Minecon and Minecraft festival rather than people just scoping out the internet to buy the codes. Minecraft Festival 2021 is going to have capes, as said on their website. Capes are supposed to show that you, as in person, went to a Minecon or Minecraft event.
