Key cylinder, and the aluminum part is called... ignition key cylinder housing

You don't say what vehicle this is. If you can remove that unit intact, what stops me from just swapping on another one and to heck with taking the cylinder out?

I used a slide hammer to pop mine out. Luckily I didn’t damage anything. Popped new cylinder in. I wish I would’ve saw this first tho 😂
