Great video. I’ve got the tiniest on/off switch under my throttle. Took me forever to find it when I first got the boat.

Not sure if you would know, my switch just stopped working and so did the tilt. Does that switch power the tilt? Thanks. Great Video. 😊
@ReubenSahlstrom5 ай бұрын
@@salcosentino9742 I am pretty sure you can run the tilt up and down regardless of what position the key is in, so I would recommend checking that all your ground connections are good going back to the battery.

Nicely done, although I wouldn't rev it without a load. The prop needs water as back pressure. Good job, kid!

I had the same exact problem on the same exact control unit. There's a two-digit number on the ignition switch. I went down to my nearest boat shop and bought three... a spare and a spare spare. $0.65 each.

Just a pointer... whenever you're working in something you're not familiar with and you see a bunch of "springy" stuff, i suggest taking pictures before you work on it.

I cant get the thing apart, looks just like yours, same screws, but mines in worse shape. It wont pry into 2. It will start prying but its like theres a 3rd screw.

Yeah! You should be able to do it! I would get a good discount on the boat since it is a bit of a headache to replace that ignition, but it doesn't mean the boat is no good! Good luck to you!

I am not sure. I think it's to adjust the engagement of the the gears somehow, but I am not sure on that.
@joeblow95684 жыл бұрын
Try turning it to see if it possibly changes the amount of friction on the handle when you throttle up. Nice job BTW, you will save yourself tons of money if you're not afraid to work on your stuff.

do you know it's possible to replicate a key from a photo of the key? careful showing your keys in a video, someone could steal your boat and take off with it down the road. does sound like fun.
@phillipsanders43143 жыл бұрын
You can actually go on EBay and get keys for older boats. I wanted an extra key for my boat. Purchased one from EBay for $4.00. All boat keys have a number on them. Your owners manual should have that information. If not look up your engine model number and throttle ( Johnson, Mercury etc.). You should be able to buy a used one cheep or jus order a new one from the outboard dealer if you want to. A lot less hassle than replacing the whole unit. Plus if you ever sell the boat you will still have original keys to that particular boat and engine.
@phillipsanders43143 жыл бұрын
Just google “ used outboard keys”. There are a lot of people seeking used keys. Just select a seller with the key you are looking for and the price that you want to pay. Just make sure the key has the exact same number as your your outboard Mack and model as well as the throttle.
@ReubenSahlstrom3 жыл бұрын
@@phillipsanders4314 Wow! I was not aware of that (obviously). I definitely would rather do that then replace the whole ignition, so if I run into this sort of issue again I might have to try it out! Thanks for the information!
