I once heard a radio interview in which Chris was asked if he had any advice for young musicians. He answered "Pound some nails if you have to - just don't become the contractor." I've thought about those wise words many times since.

I spent the summer of 1966 (I was 15 years old) listening to Blonde On Blonde over, and over, and over, and over again until I memorized all the lyrics. What a masterpiece!

Otis, I’ve been following you for several years. You somehow manage to exist in the realm of interest that is aligned with my own. Get excited for your interview videos. So many great guests, and you manage to coax out stories and ideas naughts from your guests that are not available anywhere else. Chris Smither has been one of my constant musical companions, since I had the opportunity to see him play when I was about 11 years old. Thank you for sharing this content with all of us.

Otis, so glad you had a chance to interview Chris Smither. He's a great singer, songwriter and picker, and his version of Joanna is wonderful (and available on youtube). Thanks for all you do, Otis

When I was 15 back in the midst of time I knew every word of desolation. It was a hugs badge of honour to figure out your own guitar arrangement and know every word and pause. I still remember every word but please don’t ask me about last week LOL.😂

I probably have ignored Bob Dylan at my peril... I know who he is and I've been aware of his deep catalog of music as well as his influence on modern music. He sat at the feet of Woody Guthrie and learned the craft. I think I thought I was rebelling against his (much deserved) popularity when I was a young, early 80s, punk rock teenager. You know, "kill your heroes" mentality. So many years later I'm even more aware of his songwriting prowess and skill. I'm trying to catch up... Thank you, Otis and Chris 🙏🏻 Be good to you 🙏🏻🤍

Spider John Koerner past away last night. I loved the man. He was a Twin Cities legend and an influence and mentor to young Bobby Zimmerman when he first left Hibbing and moved to Minneapolis in the late 50’s before he left to make his mark In Greenwich Village.

Chris is one of those great humble soulful song writer guitar playing performers, love "a little like a Link of Chain" and "Maybellene" just to name a few. Heard Dave Alvin cover Link of Chain the other day, wow.

I had never heard of Chris Smither until a friend invited me to attend his show in Wilkes-Barre , PA back in 1996. I've been a fan of his music ever since! Yeah someone screwed up ! Chris would definitely have blown them off the stage had he been given the opportunity to open for Dylan !

I couldn’t agree more! Chris! You did several shows for me in the early 2000’s in London Ontario! Karma Productions, Canada South Blues Society and The Great Lakes Blues Society! You totally influenced my guitar playing! And I come from 40 miles of 4 of the 5 members of “The Band” Peace - from my new home in the southern interior mountains of British Columbia!

Mr Gibbs, I have a great story for you, real heartwarming, I'm sure you'll dig it. Back in the 90's, we had a music scene in my little town. Like, a town with 2500 people, but we attracted guys from MILES around, to play these Coffee houses. One time, I hitchhiked 200 miles in January, I showed up frozen, to a reserved table for me. Waitress was mad she had an empty table. She says"Who the heck(She said a word that starts with F, but , heck has to do) are you to have a reserved table?" I said, "I'm the only guy in this room who walked 200 miles to get here, beautiful, please gimme a double JD on two rocks, & a black coffee." I married her, LOL. But the thing was, like your stories, was the relationships, the love, the inspiration, that our crew shared, I mean, everybody made everybody else better. I played harp, which thanks to Peter "Madcat" Ruth, I can almost do, but for gosh sakes, I sang crappy vocals and VERY iffy slide guitar with a guy who is so darn good, he won a Maple Blues award! I was in the right place, at the right time. I played with a dude that opened for the Black Crowes in a STADIUM. I love how your stories are about people in real scenes, how music really is about love and friendship. A real great gal, she lined up a coffee house, she rented the hall, and everything June 1st. After all these years, we're gonna make music together again. Mr Gibbs, I'm usually a ludicrous drunk anarchist, I don't usually leave my Deancave, but for this event, I'm gonna be tip top on my game. I'm not gonna walk in there being like a really am, a sick drunk hermit. I'm gonna walk in there, all shined up, in a suit, and sir, if the call comes, I will kick holy hell ass. :-)

Otis, I’m long removed from the live music scenes, and haven't in years stumbled upon too many artists I didn’t know, but you have turned me on to so many since I’ve been following your channel. Thanks for all you do. I know it must be time consuming and costly. Where’s that PayPal link? I haven’t dropped anything in it in a couple of months. I’ll find it. Keep ‘em coming.
