The absolutely best, best, best, investment, is to rennovate an old house left by your ancestors. Even if you hire workers to do it, even if you do it gradually. Long term it is a new house at a small fraction of the cost. And you get to love the house because your poured your sweat in it and because your ancestors will be proud of you, well done mate!

For me I find it fascinating that nothing is wasted, if it can be used again it is. Such a pity that in this day and age more places don't copy them. In the UK, for example, I owned my own house, but I have to pay over two thousands £s per year council tax and in return, I get public services like policing, rubbish collection etc. it's far more expensive than in China where they are almost free.
