BY FAR the best-sounding posting of this unique recording on You-Tube. REALLY clean and bright. You can even hear the CHIMES (6:05- 6:15) that were used in place of the antique cymbals!; Great Tam-tam at (11:04); also, (34:35), where the tempo and ensemble seem a bit "disjointed", but the PRIMITIVE sound of the performance really comes through. Strings and Woodwinds are often audible in the big passages, unlike most any other "modern" recording. Thanks for working on this and posting it! (PS-- other postings give the release year as 1967, not '72).

I have always admired Polish sound engineers and this is another recording proving why. Unfortunately there is some noise clearing added that muffles the natural hiss badly, regardless, it is a great performance that delivers a great experience of the piece.

It's more complicated than that and it's always a compromise, but I'm trying not to go too far in any direction to be honest. The approach is also changing. In my new uploads I'm not doing any noise clearing (beside clicks and pops). I'm cleaning the record itself in the cleaning machine, to have best sounding copy while playing rather than fixing it afterwards. Please check latest Dvorak upload and let me know what you think. :)

In the Americas we underestimate the quality of Polish orchestras to our own detriment. Great music has traditionally been a priority in this country. Keep in mind that many Polish musicians were tackling avamt-garde scores for YEARS before most of their Soviet-bloc counterparts. If you're building a CD library, I happily recommend any of various Naxos discs conducted by Antoni Wit, one of the country's most respected maestros. His Mahler 8th and his Messiaen Turangalila have been cited as among the best available recordings of those works.

Yes, it's mostly Naxos and early 90s Polskie Nagrania if we're talking about early polish performances on CD's. There were few reissues here and there but lots of records was never released other than on vinyl which is the reason this channel was concieved. ;)
