"PRINCESS ANNE IS THERE!" Royal escort stopped by Traffic cops in London

Metropolitan Police Special Escort Group (SEG) attempt to escort Princess Anne near Hyde Park whilst traffic officers stopped traffic to escort The Household Calvary through causing Anne's escort to be stopped temporarily. Traffic was then released after The Household Calvary passed causing pedestrians to cross into the path of the oncoming Royal escort.

I would remind commentators that both the Household cavalry and Princess Anne have already been subject to violent attacks in the past. It was because of this that the current arrangements were put in place. Dreadful that the SEG forgot about the military movement because, it does in fact take precedence as it carries the King's colour.

You are absolutely correct. Like our late Queen, Anne was a great lover of the theatre and on non state occasions they were just another member of the audience and did not expect red carpet treatment. For security reasons, the theatre did not know that they wee coming until a few minutes before they arrived. The royal family are far more relaxed and easy to deal with than pop stars and footballers.

Oh I used to have great fun crossing there every evening after work on my bike. Often the police would shut down the traffic in preparation for a Royal travelling through the Wellington Arch. I was also crossing through the Arch and would slip through just before the Royal party arrived. Biking along, doing a Royal wave. One officer would always stop me on the other side, going into the Park, and would be laughing his head off, telling me not to do it again, but knowing full well that I would.

Parading up and down the mall just makes a break from the parade ground and polishing their boots. Meanwhile, state occasions result in people from all over the world visiting London. Tax revenue from the hotels and restaurants they use amounts to tens of millions, not to mention revenue from the airlines.

This is rubbish! SEG have COMPLETE AUTHORITY over ANY emergency service vehicle full stop! If SEG give way to any other vehicle, it is because they have been asked to allow something to take priority. But that would be very very rare! Ambulances and Fire services all know what is going on during any shift with SEG and what routes could be blocked.
