@Prenner111 you dont need an amp, this is an amp on its own, you just need a set of good speakers...thats why its so cool, when you go play live, you can plug this thing directly into the venue PA

@brpadington In the right hands an old POD1 will sound good. For me it's all about the feel of the unit and I've never had anything that responds like a real tube amp as well as the AxeFX Ultra and the II is suppposed to be even better. I've done the tube amp thing for years, but I spend most of my time recording or jamming at home and a micing a tube amp vs plugging into either the AxeFX or the 11R is a much better solution for me.

I have two tube amps and good ones at that. I also own this unit and I use it for practice through powered monitors. It's better than my tube amps any day for playing at sane levels in the house - you can dial up the gain and dial down the volume which is absolutely fantastic. Try doing that with Tube amp TheMusicDude. the moment you try and turn down a tube amp you aren't driving the amp and your tone goes down the toilet.

How would u compare it to a fender twin with a kick ass distortion threw the clean chanel. These multiple effects board still along way to go yet

So many people on here are swearing by digital. The thing is digital will never recreate the tube. This unit is not tracking Toms playing well, you can see where the unit fumbles certain aspects of Toms playing especially when he is slurring some of his lines. I'd go with the 11 rack or the new fractal units. Or a kemper, I've always stayed clear of line 6

I have a number of great tube amps and just recently started digging into this unit. Up to this point, I would have said the same thing, but when you leave a gig at 2am and have the choice of lugging the tube amp, or simply putting the HD in a carry case and go home, I've learned to appreciate the benefit. To be honest too, it's really only us, the guitar players, that would ever notice the slight difference - in either case, you've sent the crowd away happy.

Not to be a jerk, but to me leading the industry in sales isn't as important as leading it in tone and performance. Line6 dominates in terms of stocking shelves worldwide, but there are much better modeling solutions out there from Fractal Audio and possibly even Avid. The HD series are great value, but they aren't dominating anything beyond sales numbers which isn't something I look at when trying to dial in my tone.

Own this pedalboard, no need for amps or this kind of stuff anymore. With the money for the average versatile tube amp you can buy this and a PA loud enough to be heard all the way from Australia to the USA. Without considering all the soundproofing required to record an actual 50/100 watt tube amp and a decent mic, then you can buy an Axe Fx, a Kemper and a PA loud enough to be heard from space. Everyone's free to do whatever they want but I really think this whole "buy a tube amp" thing in 2015 is pretencious and shows how self-centered most guitarists are. Not even once in my life I've heard a tube amp that's as versatile, lightweight, reliable and includes all the HQ effects available in this unit.

i agree with u man... no need to buy expensive tube amps... most guitarist now are concern on their rigs. from gibson high end guitars and fenders. and high end botique pedals and tube amps. same with bass players..

@ashasha3 Try one. In the right hands they give the AxeFX a run for it's money. If you have enough money for an Axe just buy a real tube amp.

These units need to be recalled!. They suffer from high internal latency around 3 ms which is not fast enough for dry patches as you will feel the delay since your body will feel the strings being played faster then the sound output. Only the Axe Fx has real time dry patches ( no fx just in and out patch).
