Like you have people making this argument that LeBron’s the goat because he’s gonna have three statues in three different areas and as a Lakers fan I don’t think what he’s done in a Lakers uniform constitutes a statue. But when is building a super team? That’s built to win in three years and then when that team is aged out, you go onto to find another super team and just, keep team jumping two different All-Star teams better than just figuring out how to win and maybe just doing it with one other Allstar? It kills me the reason with Kobe that so many points are taken away for the stupidest little things, but in these other instances No points are taking away from LeBron for team, jumping from All-Star team to All-Star team.

Unlike most ball players Kobe defended the best player. Like you said Bonzi, Melo, Durant, gave him some problems on that block. I can name 3 players that use to give MJ work down there as well. I agree with Iggy's line of thinking but we should expand the concept beyond just physical skills. The game is also mental. Largely mental, in fact. People with the perfect skillset and non-exploitable flaws can still make bad decisions or not use their flawless game in the right way for any given situation. Look at Chauncey Billups comments on how the Pistons baited Kobe into playing hero ball in the 2004 NBA Finals. This isn't an argument for LeBron James because he has even more "mental" flaws than Kobe. I'm just pointing out that there is more to a person's game than their physical skillset. A warrior can go into battle with the perfect sword but if he has a weak game plan, he can be beaten.
@Mandownsports Жыл бұрын
All true. But let's not 4get why Kobe tried to play hero ball in the Detroit series.....they were getting ran out of the gym for 4 reasons....#1 Shaq was out of shape, on a bad wheel and playing north of 350lbs. They already was behind the 8 ball with him on the floor defensively #2. Malone was 40 yrs old and came off a bad knee injury early to play and he hurt them as well. #3. Gary Payton couldn't stop a nose bleed, the glove had a hole in it. #4. Malone and Payton barely knew the triangle offense and wasn't even a fit for it even if they did know it. I get what Billups said but that wasn't some gameplan to exploit a mental weakness. That was just a great player forcing the game cuz he had know other choice

I enjoy your content. No player has “no flaws”. What they said about Jordan was that he had no weaknesses. Jordan honed his game and was able to be so impactful that he could get away with things on the court that might get other players benched. These are the things that separate superstars from supporting cast. Kobe has noticeable flaws. I don’t want to seem as though I’m tearing down Kobe cuz these media jackasses do it enough. I got news for you JJ Reddick, a player separating himself from others aesthetically is called the eye test. It’s the simplest way to show discrepancy between professionals and amateurs alike. It’s also the most difficult way. The eye test is where god given ability reveals the human detail that separate us all. Jordan separated himself from his peers at every level. JJ Reddick blended in with crowd when he got to the league after being a celebrated star at Duke. He knows better but he’s being paid to promote the modern game and its players and it’s not only obvious, it makes you question his credibility. Just like all the other former players who still continue to eat off the NBA. Keep up the good work. Keep educating these young people cuz ESPN is 💩 . FOX Sports is 💩. The fans deserve better. You help provide that.

What nobody ever mentions when they talk about Kobe vs LeBron is that apart from Shaq, in his championship years Kobe NEVER had another teammate that averaged 20 points or more in the playoffs, and that includes Gasol. LeBron ALWAYS had one teamate that averaged 20 pts+ (Wade, Kyrie, Davis) and apart from '20 championship with the Lakers, he had one more teammate that averaged over 15 pts (Bosh, Love). In 2020 playoffs with the Lakers, Davis picked up the slack, averaging 27.7 pts per game in the playoffs, which was actually 0.1 ppg more than LeBron. In Kobe's championship years, Lakers 3rd highest scorers in the playoffs were: Derek Fisher, 13.4 ppg in 2001, Glen Rice 12.4 ppg 2000., Lamar Odom 12.3 ppg 2009., Ron Artest 11.2 ppg 2010., Derek Fisher 10.2 ppg 2002. 🙂

Great commentary and breakdown. Id like to add one thing and i hope this reaches you. Horry said Kobe wasnt a great post defender but lets remember Horry played with Bean he never played with Mamba... he only saw Kobe first hand early in his career and like you pointed out Kobe and Jordan tuned their weaknesses into strengths. Im sure you remember the 2009 WCF finals when Kobe guarded Melo down the stretch. Melo was a better and bigger offensive version of Bonzi Wells plus....and Kobe was playing elite defense and banging with melo game on the line.... its safe to say the Mamba addressed that...

What you are not mentioning, is Lebron came straight out of HS and was drafted to the worst team in the league. And turned them around within 2yrs. made it to the Championship round in his 4th year. That's Greatness. Kobe went to a team that was already a playoff team. Kobe would not have been able to go to the worst team and turn them around. His game wasn't like that. I doubt if Kobe had went to the worst team he would have been just a good player. He had the benefit of playing with Shaq. MJ nor Kobe couldn't do what Lebron did. You say Kobe won more. Lebron went to 9 straight Championship rounds. Kobe could have never done that

Labron gotta bounce from team to team to have a chance but Jordan and Kobe worked with whoever they had and stayed on the same team win or lose. Jordan and Kobe gonna cuss yo ass out and try to make you a better player while labron gonna talk to people behind your back to get your ass traded for somebody he wants.

Kobe was a one on one player and took more shots than anyone in NBA history when he retired. When he had no one around him as a team the lakers struggled. Lebron on the other hand is a facilitator who makes everyone better around him, took a no name team to the NBA finals in 2006 I believe and is more athletic than Kobe. If Lebron focused on shooting first he could have easily averaged 30 ppg for his entire career and I have been watching the NBA since 1970 when Kareem was in his second year destroying Wilt Chamberlain at the time so I know a team player from a one on one star and you young guys are too hooked up on who can score the most vs who makes the team better. Michael Jordan would have NEVER won 6 championships in the competitive 80s because 2 of the best facilitators in NBA history were playing in that decade, Magic and Bird in their prime. My point is facilitators are more important than ball hog shooters. Kobe is the second best shooting guard behind Michael but he was NOT better than Lebron as an all around player. He was a better one on one player and that’s it!
@Mandownsports9 ай бұрын
This "took a no name team to the finals" narrative has got to stop. Iverson, Allan Houston, J Kidd, Reggie Miller and Kawhi was in the east for 1 year and showed how easy it was to get to the finals except he actually won. It's not impressive that Lebron got to the finals one time out of the east and didn't win not one game in the finals. Second, thus "make everyone better" narrative is false as well.
@benjaminsmith22879 ай бұрын
Agree. I'm tired of the LeBron vs. Kobe arguments. Different player, different mindset, different person. LeBron's strength is as a team player, not a scoring one on one player. He can score, but that's not what makes him exceptional. And he is exceptional. Kobe was great, not exceptional IMO.
