Was this caused by a maintenance issue or just normal wear from lots of hours?

I think in general 1466s got pulled hard and sometimes the results can show in the lack of hard surface on the ring gear and pinions.

Can the outer bull pinion bearings be replaced without taking it out all the way? I like your style. You show and say what needs to be said.
