Hündchen... Ist like the u with the two dots on it? Yes it is. It is the way of the diminutive in German. The vowel gets dots and -chen is added. Some examples. Dog - Hund - Hündchen Chicken - Huhn - Hühnchen Cloud - Wolke - Wölkchen Child - Kind - Kindchen It even works with words that aren't supposed to be cute. Catastrophe - Katastrophe - Kataströphchen Devil - Teufel - Teufelchen And all words get neuter in diminutive. So the article will become "das"

I've been watching the Netflix series Dark in German and have picked up a lot from that. A lot of our English is derived from German so it's easy to recognise some words, plus a lot of English slang has found it's way into common usage in Germany.

I don't know why youtube suggested this video (maybe that's the reason you get so many German followers - curiously the original video wasn't part of the suggestion) but it was fun. I'm still a bit puzzles why the app is showing "my husband is missing" and then "I didn't do it". What's the background story of this? :D But I agree, most of it was quite good. And you seem to be really good today. I've never seen one of your videos before but I undestand you don't really speak German? Then I guess you're good with your voice getting it right after just hearing it. And I agree with the statement about you being cute :D

Its funny to me seeing this again. I am American. I have a German heritage so of course I learned it. I felt most of the words were pretty straight forward to pronounce. I started learning Norwegian when I found your channel. I can read it better than speak it. I feel like in Norwegian there are a lot of letters that are not pronounced. Would be great to be more immersed in the language to hear the sounds. Ich liebe Deutschland. Jeg elsker Norge.
@AndreasJacob5 жыл бұрын
Since over a year "jag lärar mig svenska". Only with the help of the internet. But since I've started with it, I've heard and read alot 'about the history of languages. All languages like German, Swedish, Norvwegian, Danish, Dutch and even English, share a common root - the so called proto germanic. Over the time happened some sound shifts, which results in the different languages, which we know today. But even if the foreign language meight sound foreign to a non native speaker, all of them share the same roots. And with my basic knowledge of the swedish language I've made a test to read the news-website of the norwegian tv. And it was possible to me to understand the headlines. But I assume, that it would be easier for a german to learn an skandinavic language, as it would be the other way around. May be the german speaking nations (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) are to konservativ for adapting their language and even drop all gramtical cases over board. ;-) However. Thanks (Takk) for sharing your thoughts with us! :-)

@dovregubben50756 жыл бұрын
Great video, Sunny. The pronunciation is tricky to answer if you don’t know both languages. So yes, ‘ü’ is pronounced like ‘y’ (or ‘u’) in Norwegian (e.g. krysset or butikken). Other differences are for ‘g’ which is pronounced in German like in Norwegian ‘god’ but not like in ‘gi’ or ‘regn’. Furthermore, the tendency in German is to pronounce every letter in the word, while in Norwegian there are silent ‘h’ or ‘d’. Hope that wasn’t too confusing ;-)
