"The numbers correspond to either the wait time in years or the blade length in inches." It's irreverent lines like THAT which keep me coming back to your videos. Pure gold!! I'd love to own a mid-sized Survive knife like the 4.7, but I don't have the patience for the "wait time of a custom knife in a production knife." More pure gold. And in the 80 seconds of this fantastic review!

4 years into production and the GSO 7/7 is still not done. May 2016 the GSO 5.1 orders were taken on a 48 hr last chance sale and guess what they have not even started. Since that time they have added new knife line called the Sk line and they are not even started but they created new designs and new give me money lines. Order from them and a pickle is all you will need to snap.

Great video brother. Love my Survive GSO 4.1. Long wait. Was not thrilled about giving them all of the money up front, and waiting a year and a half (it seems to me they have no incentive at that point to get your knife done). Poor business practice I would say. Great knives, if you don't mind being ignored.

Yes wait time is now around 4 years but fanboys will tell you that a 5 year wait is a value for what you get. I am glad that the pickle did not damage the 3V. I ordered a 5.1 and 3 years later they have not even started 8 years from now it would get here but no I will get something else.
@shamitoson5 жыл бұрын
The line about wait time is so true. I have a GSO 4.7 that took about 2 years to receive. By the time I got it I wished I ordered another LT Wright. LTs knives feel like they were truly handcrafted. The GSO is like it was made by lasers and has never been touched by human hands. It's a great knife, just...sterile. Also, for the life I can't figure out why it takes so long. Every knife they make is exactly the same, the only difference is size and whether or not it has a useless waist of blade length(aka choil). I also convexed mine immediately, the lazy V-edge they put on them is wicked sharp for cutting paper or shaving arm hair, but bounces off wood if you try to use it as a woods blade. Keep up the good videos! I'll create 12 dummy accounts and subscribe from all of them. Just so one day I may get to see that meatloaf channel.

Just got a pleasant surprise in the mail today, my Survive! 3.5. See, the story goes I was up one night late buzzed on Nyquil looking to scratch a knife itch and saw that S! had factory seconds of the 3.5 available, so I pulled the trigger with the promice of a lengthy 3 month turn around. Apparently the Nyquil was especially strong as I vaguely recalled having made the order and it had been well past the already ridiculous wait time but nowhere could I find any trace or prooving that my order went through. Usually theres a confirmation email but I had nothing. Huh, I thought, must have either chickened out at the confirm order stage or perhaps a wireless connection fail, I could not recall so I dropped the subject altogether. Then today, thinking a headphone part arrived early, I was shocked to find my Survive! knife had come, some 9 plus months later! I should be pissed but its kinda like an early Xmas gift.

Mike Stewart from Bark River knives says modern Scandi grinds aren’t even correct...and theres “not really such a thing as a Scandi grind.” Historic Scandinavian knives are more saber-convex and without the crisp bevel line. Makes sense to me if you’re sharpening knives on stones and not a belt grinder with a bevel jig.

@seanb69866 жыл бұрын
btw the Fällkniven has a v-edge micro bevel, so you can sharpen it like you normally would. Just place the spine on the sharpening stone, lift it until the shadow under the apex disappears, then you’ll end up with the correct edge angle.

Unless you really really want a specific model, holding off from placing a pre-order is a good idea. BUT they do show up on the secondary market, so just keep your eyes open if you want to try one without having to wait. I've tried almost every model they've made, the 4.7 is a nice knife. But those are out of production, and I don't think the CruV version will ever be made again... *shrug* They recently had some GSO 3.5's for sale, "seconds", which sold out quick and folk have reported receiving them in

I guess I’m gonna be “that guy”. Yeah their forum was taken down because of their business practices. They still owe my friend 4 knives. I think if more people order from them, he may get them in a few years who knows. 🤣 Funny though they now use millit as promotion piece. Millit is sketchy not in terms of quality but business practices and more or less slow to deliver which is funny because that would match Survive...they earned their reputation. Personally I have no bad experience with Survive because I was warned back in 2015. I did have a bad experience with Millit. Oh well I almost felt the forum closing helped them. When my other friend was tired waiting years for his knife, he initiated the refund but waited weeks until he was fed up and posted publicly. That push them to refund immediately. I’m not sure how you can pressure them now. I have tried one before and it’s a survival knife which means it’s meant as a one knife option. Jack of all trades. Master of none. Should I say jack off instead. Would be more accurate. Your humor must be rubbing off. How did I get to play with one? Both of my friends own 1 each from way back when. So anywho you all want to help my friend out ? Buy some of their stuff ? Some speculated today’s buyers are funding yesterday’s order. Do I feel bad for my friend? I dunno when I’m thinking about him showing his new Rolex Sea Dweller. He’s not gonna lose sleep. Actually maybe I should pick up one as well. Tickles me to wear a diver watch when I can’t swim. 🤣

"saber grind" refers to the height of the primary grind and is used when it isn't full height (not all the way up the spine). The term has nothing to do with the secondary bevel nor the apex. Saber grinds can be convex, flat, hollow, or zero ground (aka scandi grinds, scandivex, etc). We call these plunge grinds when we are grinding blades beveled out, and to my eye they are just unfinished full flat grinds that get hardened, tempered, and finished. These grinds are effective at wedging material tho, esp useful in wood carving. Best to look at whether the height of the primary bevel is full or partial, (to the spine or not) then flat/hollow/convex, then whether or not there is a secondary bevel before the edge (zero grind or not). I avoid words like saber grind, and prefer: ie: a kabar usmc has a mid height, flat ground blade with a secondary bevel and a fuller. Secondary bevels (the shiny bit behind the edge) further complicate this, as they can be flat, or convex as well, depending on the tension on a belt (slack belt finishing makes a convex, for ex) during finishing. Hope this helps
