One of the most iconic pocket or belt knives has to be the Buck 110. In this review I compare the new for 2018 Pro and Select Lightweight Hunter Folding blades. Translated, these two new slim knives are less that half the weight of the original, and they have swappable pocket clips. This video compares all three to the original and also the Benchmade Crooked River and CR Mini. You'll also see the Spyderco Endura 4, the Byrd Cara Cara 2, and the Benchmade Bugout. I give my thoughts about QC, some blade play, and baton them.

The Original 110’s weigh is totally useful, it substantially increases the injury potential when throwing it at your foes! Those fancy “modernized” models totally lack this feature!

@@CandidZulubut if it hits the blade, the weight will break the tip. But the weight is really useful for skinning, it makes the blade almost weightless giving you more control

Out of my entire collection ( and I do have many ), my EDC , almost everyday since the 80’s , has been the trusty 110 . Owned quite a few over the past 40 or so odd years . Either I lost one - sold one - traded one - broke one - had one Confiscated, and yet I always wind up with another . ( I just wish I had my original and it makes me wonder if it is still out there somewhere). And at home , when I need a package opened or something, I use the Buck 55 ( it’s little brother ). Have used that over and over for a year or 2 and it’s Still Factory Sharp . Very sharp at that . Such a great video ❤️🤠🔪

I have a Buck long blade knife which I purchased about 40 years ago, and had to get it since the shorter blade knife I had purchased before that ended up being given to my grandfather since he liked it. I have a model 110 which I purchased over 35 years ago from the same military base and never could get it sharpened correctly, and neither could anyone else I knew who claimed to know how to sharpen knives. I purchased a Japanese knife while at the last base before retiring and was looking like the Buck 110, but was easy to sharpen and held it's edge.

The 440HC May wear out in 37 years vs 43 of the pro, but I ma ok with that because My beloved Buck 110 that I got for Christmas last year will always hold a special place for me, in may dresser drawer because it so freak awesome... all 37 lbs of brass, steel and wood. No, I do love it. The case it came with though is the tight against your waist kind not the one with the loop. Peace out.

One reason why I could think of you may want a carry a knife similar to the Buck 110 is that is/was marketed and used as a hunting knife. Which means prepping game out in the field etc. Which in turn means do you want a slightly gooey, game juiced knife in your pocket? 🤔 Oh another thought, brass is antimicrobial. Stainless, aluminum are not.😷

I was actually looking for a video about this very topic since I am about to buy a 110. Love the humor! I gotta say, I prefer the classic (for now), only because I am sort of an older fart who grew up when the heavy 110 was the go-to for almost anyone, except us "po folks." I'm gonna buy myself one now that I'm all growed up and can afford to buy one for myself. I have a spydie I really like and carry everyday, and I even inherited a 110 from my dad, BUT he had a very odd way of sharpening his knives in such a way as to ruin the blade... he had to have used a cinder block on this one. But hey, I'm pretty sure it will cut ceiling tile pretty well.

Oh, that is hilarious! Is that a Schlafly bottle opener mounted to that log? I love Schlafly beers. Spent a lot of time at that brewery. I might have to pick up that Buck 110 slim select. Thought being that it's light enough to put in the pocket of my fixed blade Ontario SP51 or RD7 sheath for camping and backpacking. I did score the aluminum bolster 110 with drop point and pocket clip from Copper and Clad out of Missouri. All my Benchmade and "super steel" knives I've collected over the years just sit in a drawer now. I don't see the need for a long sharpening session at the campsite when that BOS 420HC is all you need and easy to sharpen. Good review as usual.

@AdvancedKnifeBro 4 жыл бұрын
This is a misnomer that is propagated over lack of awareness of types and qualities of polymer handles. Never ever have I had a legit FRN or GFN handle break on me- the “plastic” this handle is made out of. However over the years the parts that have failed on knives are made from metal. I have had aluminum handles crack, soft screws strip... once I broke a blade. Let me ask you this? Ever had any small or large metal parts break on you over the years? Not even on knives. Ever break a screw? Parts of door handles? Ever seen brass break? I have. So no, I don’t agree with you. If I had to wager on guess of the part of the 110 most likely to break... It’d probably be the pivot. While plastic does break... so does metal.

When I received my buck Slimline Pro two weeks ago, it had quite a bit of blade play. I took a punch and a small hammer and tapped the pivit rivet and it tightened up. I wish Buck would put Torx screws on it and partial liners to stiffen it up a bit.

look at the 110 auto elite. s30v blade. pricey but I'm going to get one. also copper and clad makes several different blade shapes and types. 5160 and s30v are options.

A quick tip for tightening up the original 110 is to fold a leather belt on each side of the pivot bolster and slowly clamp it in a vice.

Would you ever considering going back to cheap knives again like the rough rider's? particularly the fixed blades as they are really untouched by anyone but I'm sure people are curious.
@AdvancedKnifeBro
@AdvancedKnifeBro 5 жыл бұрын
The Buck 110 is cheap! I hesitate to dabble in cheap Chinese knives as much as I used to. I don't mind Chinese knives at all, however trying to navigate through what is and isn't a clone of another knife is hard for me. I try and avoid clones nowadays, just to avoid all the stupid arguments they generate. I'll look into some rough riders, and some cheaper international knives too... I mean this year I did that video where I reviewed quite a few cheap international knives. Many under $20.
@Drownedinblood
@Drownedinblood 5 жыл бұрын
Oh I know, I got one I use around the house and food prep, yet to touch deer. It's alright if you want to avoid Chinese knives cuz of the clone debate. It's why I'm recommending Rough Rider, since it seems like these are the clones people are ok with because people will complain about a similar blade shape or a hole in modern designs, but when your whole knife is cloned by several companies who just basically stick their logo and accompanying QC standards to it, that's just becoming a "pattern". www.roughriderknives.com/stone-mountain-bowie/ Come on, doesn't this knife just make your penis grow a whole 2 inches? Seriously though rough rider seems to have some nice fixed blades.

@AdvancedKnifeBro

I often shoot and write these separately, that was the last shot after I had most of the review finished. I hesitate to call a lock failure because of batoning an issue. It's there for the viewer to make their own determination... if that's a big deal to you then I would avoid it. By the way, all those pieces of wood were different levels of hardness.

People buy an OG 110 for one reason only. Nostalgia!!! Their grandpa had one, their Dad had one, and literally every male figure in their life had one. Is it the best choice in any category? Absolutely not! Does it put a smile on your face and can be bought for less than $35? You bet your Bucking Ass!!! 😉👍🏼

How about BUCK step up and make a select pro the plastic handles with the s30v steel. I would really like my select more then. But at last I too have the green select. And I'm one of them that picked up the button type og BUCK 110 and it's a 110 alright and it has a button as well but still the old steel and the butt style lock. Cheers
