Part of Oklahoma used to be Mexico too and when the US acquired a lot of these states from Mexico the treaty stated that the people could remain there, become American citizens and also keep their language and culture. The housing is nearly unaffordable (especially in Maricopa County), the car insurance is double what it used to be because people (mostly illegals) are driving with no insurance / and or drivers licenses. Trump hired Polish immigrant steelworkers because he is too much of a cheapskate to ever really be 'America First', used imported steel as well. Vance hired Latino immigrants to work at one of his start up greenhouses in Eastern Kentucky. Not only are both married to immigrants (Melania does appear more like a buisness partnership than wife) but they both also hired immigrants. We were hit by a bad hail storm in my neighborhood. Many of us needed and got our shingles replaced. Without exception, the roofing crews were majority if not entirely Spanish speaking. They did great work, went sunrise to sunset and completed most jobs in one day. If these hard workers are sent away, I expect the speed, quality and cost of repairs will all be negatively impacted.

I lived in AZ and a friend lives on border and has not had a problem accept with the wall which she said affects the eco system and when fire on Mexican side she could have lost her house because of the stupid wall! Here’s my prediction for the future of “deportations”: In about a year or so, after they’ve emptied the Federal prisons of illegal immigrants (and the chest-thumping ends) the new administration will sponsor some BS bill called “The American Food Cost Protection Act” which will really function as a way to keep low-cost farm, ranching, food processing, and slaughter house laborers in this country. I’m a native Californian, born and raised, and spent 90% of my life there. California has an ENORMOUS agricultural industry, from wine to lettuce to strawberries to almonds, and this industry is fueled by immigrant labor. If you remove this labor pool, then a large percentage of the products we consume will either skyrocket in price, be imported, or completely disappear. We, as a nation, can not afford to lose this valuable supply of labor. And we won’t. Trump is a showman. He’s good at fear mongering. But at the end of the day, no American is going to be willing to pay $8 bucks for a head of lettuce. Can’t wait to see more of you ladies!❤

I work for the health department in Florida. Thousands of Cubans have came over sometimes by plane. Lots of Ukrainians have came over. Some Haitians but not near as much as Cubans and Ukrainians. They have to come through the health department. Florida loves Cubans to come over because they think they’re white and end up going Republican. They love some immigration and I’m so sick of them playing both sides of this BS.

Here in California the minimum wage is $15 per hour. How much do you think the price of food is going to go up once all the migrants have been deported? I can tell you from experience that my white cousin wouldn’t get off the couch let alone go pick food. He does enjoy living back at home in his 50s now. For fast food, the minimum wage here is $20 an hour. Your eyes would pop out of your head to see the prices here in California yet the United States is choosing that nationwide.

When I had my roof replaced several years ago, as well as currently, several neighbors who are having their roofs replaced, ALL the work has been & is being done by immigrants, - primarily from Mexico and South American countries. Most of these men are here, like the Haitians in Ohio, on work visas (- a few may be undocumented & that's on the companies who employ them.) These men work their butts off in extremely demanding conditions doing very hard work. None are white, - except the owners, supervisors briefly on site to inspect the work.

I am an immigrant from Switzerland and was invited to apply for a green card in 1987, while my friend from Ghana wasn't even allowed to visit me in New York as a tourist. One of the reasons I fight for people without my privilege. Also, I live about 20 miles from the border in a very rural area. And again, I benefit: easy access to excellent dental and visual care across the border, at a fraction of the cost here. And in more than five years, since I moved here, I have yet to see an immigrant "issue". I am sure there is the odd criminal without papers, but aside from that, it's mostly right wing propaganda--and not even progressive media is contradicting it.

My niece and my son both moved to NM by choice from AL. My niece lives on the border in Las Cruces and she loves it there. Never heard one complaint about immigrants. Her biggest complaint: She is a nurse who worked Covid ICU during the pandemic and the number of patients, dying, about to be put on ventilators that begged for a vaccine because they thought they didn't need one, was staggering to hear her tell it. And, yes, nearly 100% white people who bought into the MAGA conspiracy on vaccines. Now we have just signed up for 4 more years of it and antivax RFK, Jr is going to be in charge of the Dept. of Health and Human Services. My son lives in Northern NM and his biggest complaint about immigrants is not enough is being done to help them and in the homeless population. He also gets fired up how poorly America has treated our Indigenous people (both parties).
