I had both machines, both were very good, but couldn't justify keeping both. I kept the Octatrack, purely because of its performance features, especially as a mixer and the scene cross-fader, which is awesome. It is very powerful and complex, but takes a while to learn. The DT on the other hand is quick to learn and is a wicked little box.

I think it boils down to this: if you play live then you can't beat the Octatrack. If you're studio based or noodling on the sofa then the DT is ace.

i wish i never sold my digitakt after getting my octatrack. thats the only piece of kit i regret selling. the digi is so quick to get up and running and because its only got a few jobs to do, its much easier to understand. i love my octa because it works for the 100% reason i bought it and ill never be selling it

There is a dirty way to play stereo tracks on the Digitakt. Just split a stereo track into two mono tracks (on a computer), import, then pan hard left and right, starting of course at the same time. I don't need stereo much, but this works well when I do need stereo.

I liked the video and they are a welcome addition to the channel for me! One thing that could be IMO better if you added some personal opinions like "x is a deal breaker if you want to do y", "this is the reason why I need the other one", or "this feature is what makes it so much better for that". Otherwise it was informative, but as someone who owned neither, I don't know if for example mono sampling is very limiting or not (for most techno basic sounds probably not, but for pre-recorded processed super wet sounds probably yes?)

Novation Circuit Tracks and Bass Station II are my only hardware so far, but I've played around with Digitakt and Model:Samples and really like the workflow of those... Your video was phenomenal. Definitely made it hard to choose but I think this is the point. Both are potent tools, in their own ways. Digitak seems like a simpler start but eventually opener doors to the OT and having both. As I don’t own either and trying to decide between them… I don’t think I can 😂 I might have to see how much a used digitakt goes for to see if I can grasp the Elektron interfaces but the OT seems like my long haul end goal since it can truly do it all. And I definitely see that cross fader as a stipend. I suppose it does come down to “performing live” or making intricate things (octatrakt) versus wanting instant jams and grooves with fun and having it be an audio interface itself (digitakt). I can say I don’t need aspects from both and love aspects from both.. hence this hard decision. But to put credit where it’s due, you fantastically went over all the things I wanted to know and explained it very well. I immediately liked and subscribed :) I hope I can come to a decision soon 😅

Hi there, What do you mean that on digitakt no way to play long samples? Is there a limit like 20 sec or so? I could understand that no way to chop or edit like a 30 sec or 1 min long samples but there is not even possible at least to play it how it is originally? thx

I think I was quite generic in that statement. What I really meant was that there is no proper way to deal with long samples. Plus there are some other limitations. You can indeed load a long sample into the DT. I think it is around 11 min of samples per project. However the sample will be converted (summed) into a mono sample. Also there is no time stretching or slicing. No tempo matching. For me it appears to be impractical. Happy to be proven wrong here haha

You can pitch it down, that slows it down too and get approximately to 120. But there is no such a thing as it does it perfectly and for you, like Octatrack or Ablaton Live’s Warp function.

One thing new digitakt owners dont seem to know, and maybe it was added in a later firmware, is the ability to use digitakts on board effects on your other hardware. Its a little limited, and clunky to get set up. but u can effectively send digitakts 2x inputs to the digitakt on board. And also, even though digitakt samples in mono, it does playback in stereo. It just sucks you cant use stereo samples. As far as choosing one, i couldnt, their so different. If u wanna get into elektron gear, i guarantee you it will be something u absolutely love or hate. honestly, if u are already a producer, it will likely only take you 1-2 weeks to know it through and through. I think octatrack is for the more advanced/patient, or simply gifted fast learner among you. But yeah I have seen awesome scratch djs turn this thing into a whole new breed of machine. Octatrack appeals to me for totally different reasons than digitakt. They may have the same brand, but like ihor says in the video, their 2 different things. I swapped my rytm for an octatrack and can honestly say it was the right choice. I dont use overbridge nor have any want to do so. But if you like things like that and being in your daw, u might want a rytm digitakt over an octatrack, or even an mpc. Samplers are such a personal thing to own in music. I mean the choices are all good ones. Ultimately, Its how u choose to use them that will determine their value. If u havemt yet, check out rolands new offering. The sp404mk2. For less than digitakt, it has some great beginner freindly (and advanced) features. Rock on Ihor n friends!

I think I covered most of the differences that they have in that video. Sometimes those little details matter a lot. I'd say it all depends on the use case and personal preferences. Octatrack can do most of the Digitakt stuff? Yes. But for example can the Octatrack have 2 send effects, bit reduction, overdrive and 2 filters on one track? Hell no.

simple: if you want a sampler go for Digitakt but keep in mind that some functions like timestretch is only available on OT (Octatrack) faster results you will get with digitakt - OT has a deep learning curve if you are willing to learn it and in the beginning it will frustrate (trust me I own Analog Rytm, Analog Four and thought OT will be easy - it is not!) after some months I figured out how to use it :/ not the best tool to get started with (personal opinion) multiple possibilities with OT - you can set the tracks to whatever you want - flex, static, thru, neighbour but first you will need to get the head around banks and patterns I don't own a digitone but keep in mind you will have 4 tracks to play with (you will have to use trig conditions if you want more sounds on a track) so in short go for digitakt - you can also try to get them in used condition if you don't like just sell it for almost the same price you bought it if you like it keep it and extend your setup for digitone or OT BUT (advice!) don't buy too much stuff at once. master on device and then get another one

Why not Akai Force? Why not Polyend Tracker? Why not Roland MC-707? Novation Circuit? Maschine+? Who knows what someone likes. The devices are as different as people. The only way is to try something and learn. It will cost.

Perfect ihor! I wonder when using the digitakt to sequence external synths, would it make most sense to buy synths with keybed? Or a desktop version? I guess if space is not an issue, keybed version would make most sense? How do you feel about it? Did you like your minilogue with keys or would you have desktop version instead? :)

This is a tricky question for me haha. I have 2 synths with keyboards and modular, which isn't. I kinda lean more towards desktop, with no keyboard on it. But sometimes it is really cool to play the keys! Overdub! So this! Not that helpful haha It must be simple. If you play keys to create music, you must have keyboards. If not - skip it.

They both are quite good sounding. Don't forget that the Digitakt is just a sampler, but Rytm is a sampler and an analog synth. I think I can say that Rytm sounds stronger.

Но сейчас, когда мой iPad Pro по железу и мощи круче чем мой Korg Kronos X, все конторы продолжают разделять ромплеры и семплеры, вместо того чтобы объединять все в одном ультимативном флагманском девайсе... Из-за этого непонятно, что мне купить у них, так как везде все пересекается, но в ту или иную сторону...
