About IISER -
The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) are a group of seven autonomous institutions that teach and research in natural science. The Government of India established the IISERs in 2006 to promote interdisciplinary science education and research. Each IISER has its own Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees. Someone posted it on Reddit - REALITY of IISERs placement I see a lot of students (majorly aspirants) saying that IISERs don't have placements. So do IISERs really don't have any placements? The Answer is IISERs do have placements and It's pretty good. No placements at IISERs used to be the case earlier, but now IISERs have active placement cells (except Behrampur and Tirupati because they are pretty new). The median salary ranges from 11 LPA to 17 LPA. Roles in which students get placed majorly are Data Scientists, Management Consultants, R&D scientists, and SDEs. Getting placements is very easy at IISER because only ~5% of your batch will be sitting for placements. Hence, unlike IITs, you'll have very low competition for on-campus placement. Two major reasons, even with active placement cells, why very few people sit for placements: 1. Mostly everyone is interested in research (academia). 2. You'll be getting a much higher stipend in your PhD abroad. It's way more than what the median package of top IITs is, or what you get from any top college. Even considering PPP, you'll be saving and sending a lot of money to your family. Additionally: Acceptance rates are very high for IISER students in global universities. Who wouldn't want the tag of Harvard, MIT, or Cambridge etc on their profile and their alumni network? Majorly, all of those who apply for PhDs get into top 100 QS ranked universities. Honestly, who wouldn't like associating with such prestigious global institutions? Hence again people choose PhD over placement. Since there is not a culture of placement, and due to super hectic academics, nobody gets time to prepare for anything for placements in their first four years. People who want placements generally prepare in the fifth year. Since people have not prepared in the first four years, and in the fifth year they are working on their MS thesis, they don't prioritize placements, and a PhD seems much easier and better. Throughout your IISER years, many people including professors will encourage you to pursue research and discourage you from going for placements. About internships: After the third year, a lot of people go abroad for internships. In the fifth year, people go abroad for their MS thesis project, and it's all sponsored. In my batch, 30%-40% of people did their MS thesis abroad. Since a lot of people are going abroad from IISER to do internships, projects, or PhDs, IISER's brand value is damn strong globally. Everywhere, whether in a MBA or job interview, you'll get preference for being an IISER student. So, this is all about IISERs' placements. Don't be fooled by people who say their is no placements at IISERs and it's only for research. IISER is a good launchpad for research but also gives enough exposure that you can pursue any career of your choice. PS: Last year, an IISER Kolkata student grabbed a package of 90 LPA abroad in a biotechnology company and IISER alumni are in top positions across industry and academia. ^ This all comes from an IISER Kolkata final year student.

Dont apply for iisers as backup if your Target is mbbs , because research is totally different from mbbs ,u need to study whole life 5yrs bsMs then phd and then post doc around 10yrs ka hai aor salary kuch bhout high figh ni hoti hai ,jo chhate hai ki show off karna paisa ka ,gadi, i phone etc mai bhout interest hai unke liye iiser ni hai . @@anuragdas1400 If you are seeking for money, then yes IIT, NIT & IIIT are better option. But if you do research in NISER or in IISER and went for PhD in abroad and got a job as scientist then you will be earning $100K per annum (P.S. - I said $ not ₹) Many foreign countries seeks Indian young scientists. If you don't wanna go abroad and want to get a government job with good salary, complete your masters with 6 CGPA or more in NISER or CEBS, you will directly get selected for BARC interview where you can start working as a Scientific Officer if you passed the interview. The salary will keep increasing as you get promoted.

As an physics student from IISER TVM, i can say definitely say IISER is the best place to do Science. And the packages after are decent and to some extent better if you want to take a job after BSMS. However students don't take this job for higher studies. Moreover, the jobs that comes are mostly different from other colleges. They are mostly research Jobs and the package can range from 7- 15 lakhs. I hope it helps for people who wanted to know about the placement cell. And don't think IISER as a backup, because it won't work, IISER is made for Scientist, and finishing studies to become a proper Scientist is a hectic task and it's a minimum of 15 years of study, we hardly got time for sports or any other activities, and the amount of extra stuffs you need to study along side the main course is too much, So, don't waste a seat. Take a drop and pursue and give the seat to someone who wants to be a Scientist.

Not reducing competition but unless you are purely interested in research it will be a hell for you trust me and 3 percent students in iiser who are like 650+ on neet level can only go for phd abroad otherwise in terms of placements its like 2 percent the placement cell in iisers is very much worst than you think so phd is like the only option 😅

@@shreyitsinha I don't know from where you got that information but sorry to say it's an absolute lie 🙂 unless you are able to prove your essence to foreign profs they won't accept you for PhD and i guess that the 50 percent you are saying are mostly from IISC Bangalore / IIT Madras / IISER PUNE 🗿 yeah ofc iiser alumni have a good reach but only 60 students which is nearly about 3 percent are able to go for a abroad PhD life in IISER is much more difficult than what people think ofc if you are interested in research then it will be a heaven for you though 🙂

I want to take the IAT 2024. While filling in the online form I came across one indication there that my eligibility for the test depends on my marks in mathematics. Does it mean that if I secure less than 60% in mathematics paper in my class 12 examination (the result of which is awaited), I will not be eligible even to take this test? Or does it mean that my getting admission to ISSER will depend on my performance in mathematics in IAT 2024? I am a bit confused. I, therefore, would like to request you to clarify me.
