For those wondering: the coach was urging one of his pupils to "search" for his opponent while shadow boxing. He insisted that he should move consistently as if attacking a real opponent, thus moving forward aggressively, and not moving sideways or shying away from pursuing, which would give space and initiative to a counter attack.

he is basically saying that the attack has to be fabricated, without necessarily waiting for the opponent to be qualified. So to achieve that, one of the ways is by how you force the contrary to be in an uncomfortable position. when attacking, using all the defense technique versus an opponent moving backward, not to waste time moving side to side, because it is a waste of time, it has to be forward, forward and forward...no bluff moving to the right, then left, then a step forward....it is not energy efficient and does not serve to any purpose.
