This seems like a long video considering it starts out with me saying that I have nothing to say. For some reason, last year was ROUGH for me; exactly why, I can't rightly say. I do think that I'm coming out of my hermit cave to see if my shadow is visible... I think that's how the saying goes. Anyways, here's to all of you who kept yourselves together by sheer dint of will. Let's see what we can do with this year, shall we?
Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the Verse.

The one thing I’ve learned that has really kept me going in life is that when someone is a garbage person to you there are 10 more who are incredible and kind. The a-holes and the negativity is loud but it’s never the majority.

I'm so sorry you got burgled. That's my biggest worry with my re-build (plus junkyard) project. And having gutted and begun the rebuild, your plan is good. One wall at a time. One floor at a time. One ceiling at a time. And don't feel guilty about keeping the world up to date. It's your home, your timeline, your life. We are not entitled to any of it. Just know that the crumbs are enough to inspire and change lives like mine. I remain grateful.

Being robbed is a horrible violation, worse because you have no idea what face to place that anger on. Nobody feels fully safe anymore. Finding your comfort again with that space takes time. My heart goes out to you.

Your analytics may say otherwise, but people like me will watch all of the stuff you're doing there, as mundane as you think it is. I like the process, the transformation, the visuals of the progress, even if there's no "big project payoff" going on. So if it's not too much of an emotional strain, I know I would appreciate continued videos of all the little stuff. The little stuff matters too.

Planning and buying materials is so daunting. My mind does not work that way and I always get stuck. You say you “don’t do anything” but you are. You are sharing your good days and bad with an audience who may be experiencing some of the same struggles. If your videos make even one person feel not so alone then you are doing something great.

I also had an interesting year in 2023. Feel free to keep reading if you're interested in hearing my story: A man forced entry into my home through the front door(damanding I call him a cab and insisting he was being chased by some bad people) where me and my son were alone and it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me; after calling him a taxi and attempting to block him from going any further into my home a silver car stopped in front of the house (not a taxi), I asked him if these were the bad people trying to get him and he got spooked, pushed past me and ran through my house and out the back door. My two dogs chased him out barking and he jumped the fence. I locked everything up after he left including the windows while at the same time I called the police, then I ran out the front to inform the taxi driver who turned up that his fair had left. Literally 1 minute after I'd called the police and done this the cops turned up with a sniffer dog, they had been hot on this guys tail. I told the police I'd called him a cab but that he took off over the fence. They checked the place and gave me a number to call if the man came back. Later I found out the police managed to catch him trying to leave the area in a taxi about 40 minutes after he'd forced his way into my house. He had 5 warrents and they found a knife on him after the arrest! After the event I felt invaded and helpless, I always lock everything up even in hot weather, I'm often afraid to answer the front door, only doing so when I'm expecting a parcel. These sorts of events can shake a person to the core, we should feel safe in our own homes, not scared and paranoid. I'm really sorry you were burgled ijessup, I understand completly how this sort of thing can have an affect on someone, I'm glad there are still kind people willing to help a woman when she's down. Stay strong! I look forward to the next video, you are so inspiring!

Rent a truck: Go to the contractor desk at your big box store, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Sign up as a contractor, and sign up for the in store credit card. I get 10% off all purchases at Lowes and delivery is only $20. It adds up. Way cheaper than renting a truck. In my state, I signed up as a sole proprietor. I don't know what the laws are in your state, but it is probably something similar. Super simple; it only took about 15 minutes, and it saves me thousands of dollars per year.

"I keep thinking myself out of actually starting" gurl, do I ever resonate with this thought right here! For me, it's the perfect storm of perfectionism, procrastination and generalized anxiety disorder. Terrified to start cause "what if it's not EXACTLY the way I want." So I push it off indefinitely. Whenever that happens and I get sick of myself, I make utterly exhaustive lists. And then I assign tasks on my lists to specific days or weekends. Every once in a awhile, I even get some of them done. 😉

My husband and I got robbed early last year too. We have a similar situation as you, the place wasn't liveable and needed work and we had tools and supplies stored there. We lost it all and couldn't afford to replace it so we were just out of luck. We didn't have insurance and the police knew who it was but couldn't prove it because he sold the stuff, so we weren't able to get any of it back. Its incredibly disheartening. I hope you were able to install a security system, thats one of our goals for this year.

When my house was burgled, they stole part of my rock collection. There's no accounting for what the low lives who do this will go for. You are one of my biggest internet role models (and I'm 34)! Sometimes I doubt my own abilities, whether I'm too soft or too hard, should I accept help or should I grit my teeth more. From my experience the best and most important thing is to just step back a little bit and look at it from a different perspective - or getting in touch with other people, some of whom can give you faith in humanity again. Believe in yourself like we believe in you :) greetings from Germany

I'm happy to see you! I know that so many people are just totally depleted after 3 years of COVID. As someone bipolar myself, I was always running on empty pre-pandemic, so it's really meant a massive slide into not really coping at all. I think a lot of ND folks are really finding things so rough going these days. Neurodivergency in a world that constantly expects you to be neurotypical is rough and exhausting, the condition is exhausting, managing others' expectations and well meaning advice is exhausting, coping with the loss of social support structures because everyone is wrung out by the pandemic is exhausting and the uncertainty is also exhausting. Be kind to yourself! Try not to beat yourself up for not being able to do everything all at once. Thank you for sharing your life with us xx

I've been thinking of you a lot recently so I'm very glad to see you, and I'm so sorry someone violated your little piece of the earth. I'm kind of glad though that you weren't there at the time. I haven't known about your troubles before today as I've never signed up for Instagram. I pretty much had to back away from Facebook last year and I even got behind on KZbin too. My husband was very ill a year ago and since then our life has changed a lot so my time isn't my own. I must say I strongly object to you saying that in your videos of your poophouse, that you don't do anything. You work! 👍👍👍 In the olden days when I was young back in England building sites would be fenced around but they actually used to cut circular holes at the right height for people to look and see what the chaps were doing in there. It's very soothing watching other people work. I almost think it's a vicarious feeling of achievement that we get from watching work be done. I am terribly behind in my house. But I'll watch you working at yours with great pleasure. Take care and bless, I'm very glad that you are sort of okay and I'm sending some belated love and hugs that I couldn't send before now. 💖😘🤗 Don't be a stranger on KZbin - even a little quick 'hello I'm alright' would be most welcome. If you can manage it. 💗

Hey Jes! Thanks for the lovely update. Your trip to Italy with your sister sounds incredible! What memories you made! I too struggle with getting started on larger projects. One trick that works for me is to set “artificial” deadlines for myself. For example, I invited friends to stay in our (currently) unfinished guest bedroom 6 weeks from now. So now I have 5 weeks to procrastinate, and one week to finish patching, painting and trimming out the guest bedroom! 😉 Sounds like maybe your first build project should be a lockable shed for all your tools. ☹️ With booby traps.

I really appreciate the content you put out and quite enjoy the raw format - it is very honest and candid. I usually find myself skipping ahead a lot in youtube videos (thanks ADHD), but I found every moment captivating. I especially loved the part with the knifemaker and the connection you made, that was beautiful. Watching your process on how to approach work resonates with me, the first step is always the hardest, I'm sure once you start your next task you'll gain confidence and start figuring it all out along the way. That's really sad about the break in, it sucks that people suck and most of all: it feels really violating to have people on your private property stealing things. You deserve all the help and support you get! Looking forward to the next update, whenever that might be. May your tools stay safe

Perhaps you have a friend or a relative that has done renovation before? Then he or she could help you with the first wall or the first cable or the first whatever and then you can do the rest. It‘s ok to ask for help. No man is an island. :) It‘s good to hear you want to start start! You will be so proud of yourself once you live in the house you build.

Yay, so glad to see you back! And wow, what a shitty thing that someone burgled your house. No wonder you needed time off.
