Unix, Linux, Google, facebook, GPS System were first developed in Universities such as MIT, Harvard. How many Indian Universities are that Capable? and How many have fundamental research facilities? How many Foriegn students learn in IITs, IIMs, AIIMS?. What are Earth Shaking Inventions done by Indian Universities and Scientists? Its easy for Indians and it has become a Habit to Blame "Reservation" rather than Asking such Questions, because it takes thinking and reading.

You are confused what you are talking about is applied research. I think core problem why we don’t develop extraordinary products is because our system is designed to providing cheap labor. Sadly that become incentive to perpetuate create useless degrees. It’s similar to why countries abundant with natural resources rarely develop. It’s because biggest stake holders are then mostly just resource extractors.
