the hardest part for me is knowing when to switch to the opposite color and this game does a good job at being a brain teaser in the sense that you have to pay attention to the bullets but also the color of your ship and whats coming at you and its not as easy as you think it would be. but as we all know that is what makes this game different from other shoot'em ups and its fun. i can say say the score is the least of my worries for these games

Smart way to play. Some points (stage 3 boss, I'm looking at you) require it to preserve your lives.

I get it. Fortunately, Ikaruga is only a 25-ish minute game start to finish. Plus you can practice individual stages. It just depends how good you want that determines how time-abusive the process ends up being.
