I love this advice! Especially for someone with a short attention span and a foggy-ish memory, it's best to simply distract yourself. Constant background music also helps if you get these really frequently

I think it’s so wild how hard I relate to Ike on so many different levels. This literally what I do and used to do on a regular basis.

I just realized that I relate to Ike in so many ways except he has better ways to deal with things I really look up to him wow

I distract myself then when ive calmed i reflect on why it affects me so much. At first it was uncomfortable and irritating but the more it runs in my head on repeat, the more i just feel it was silly and that here i am having a bad day while that someone who gave me this memory prolly already forgot about it and was having a nice day and my competitive self is like. frick that, how dare he, so i basically just pick myself back up and go like im gonna have a nicer BETTER MORE PRODUCTIVE day than you muahaha and then yeah when that thought appears again at a later date im just like HEH NICE TRY and go about my day

This is pretty good advice. I have those thoughts often, and so I often need a distraction.

idk if i'm blessed or cursed to have very poor long term memories of events -- i think my brain blocks out a lot of stuff whether good or bad oops

There’s many pros and cons to both…as someone who has short term memory, I forget some things that I really need to remember like tasks for the day or important things I need to do. But it helps when it comes to distracting and then detaching from emotional pain enough to calm down and reflect on it. I know for other people with longer memory spans it’s harder because they continue to think about that the issue and they can get stuck in that negative feeling for a long while before being able to calm down enough to reflect.

@@MrBezazel i agree it's definitely a double edged sword

that works but not with everyone, my life has become a constant cycle of trying to do thing to distract myself. But in one way or another I end up in a dark place again for ABC reasons and have to search something else and so on. and that means that I can´t sleep unless I´m very tired cause those moments of darkness and silence before falling asleep become filled with my thoughts. never ending cycle of looking for something that distracts me long enough

True. I once broke up with an ex girlfriend that cheated on me so I picked up speedcubing(competetive rubik's cube solving). Because of my adhd, i hyperfocused to the point that I could solve it in 14 seconds on average.Even went to a couple of competitions. I didn't win ofcourse, but It made the break up alot less miserable tho.

I used to do this but thankfully when my brain sees something that puts me in a spiral I often just forget it instantly for some reason. I used to try really hard to remember it then when I did it would bother me again and I would resort to some bad stuff. Though now if I feel like I just forgot something or how I got somewhere I know my brain is protecting me and I try to move on with the day and never think about it again.
