Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy the new set up. I’m using a new microphone and I would really appreciate some feedback on the volume. Is it too quiet? Just right? (I’m assuming it’s not too loud haha). Thanks!!

A word of caution, if you live an area of high humidity, use felt or rubber pads to raise the cork off of your furniture or wood floors to allow for air circulation. The cork absorbs excess moisture and will leave rings, mold and black spots that can ruin your furniture/floors. I found this out the hard way. :(

For the cork products, you can coat with a polyurethane spray. It will prevent mold/stains on the cork.

I need more videos like this. It's really cool to see how you can use random stuff that's not intended for plants and work it into your plant home 😊

I’ve used the cork trivets for years to keep the pots from catching surfaces. Beware that the cork is porous and when using terra-cotta pots and saucers the water can transfer and still leave a water mark.

Only two minutes in and already planning on getting that toothbrush holder for my cacti and covering the outside in washi tape for ✨aesthetics✨
@scarletleigh7273
@scarletleigh7273 3 жыл бұрын
This is super late, but you can easily upgrade the toothbrush holder by wrapping it in macrame, raffia or any nice looking twine. You can paint it, you can kind of "decoupage" paper or napkin with a print that suits your aesthetic, you can put washi tape on it or peel and stick paper...there's lots to do to match it to your aesthetic!

I wish I could post a picture here, but I actually bought the red linen cabinet from IKEA (not sure on the name, but it has glass doors and two small drawers up top), cut a hole in the back, and mounted t5 grow lights on the undersides of the shelves. Now it’s full of happy plants that are protected from my cats! I also bought a small shelf from IKEA and hung it above the cabinet with another t5 mounted underneath so I could keep plants on the top as well.

I LOVE these “hacks”. I have those toothbrush things we use them in the shower for soap but YOU BET YOUR BUM we will use them for plants now!! Why didn’t I think of this? Plant mom fail. :) EVERYTHING WITH DRAINAGE IS A PLANTER! 🤣🧡 Thanks Nick!

Super fun hacks. Thank you for sharing. I like using glass enclosures for mini or small single potted plants, this way, I don't have to worry about them drying out to quickly and it's a fun stylish way to highlight the smaller members in my collection.

To extend the life of the wood based one, you could probably use a spray sealer/clear coat. Definitely worth doing if you already have some for other household projects!!

Thank you. Yes - this was very useful! More, please! When we are shopping, online, we often have specific planty problems to find solutions for - but things like 'scale' and how things might work together are a big issue for the online shopper. So, I appreciate videos like this very much.

I use the KNAGGLIG box the exact same way :D, plants on top and soil, perlite etc. stored in it. I have the HEKTAR floor lamp with 3 light spots that you can adjust the height and direction of! I put in some growlights in them and it is really handy because you can adjust the amount of light for the plants! Every light has its own switch so you can turn them on/off individually.

Regarding the cloche with the wooden base: you could probably spray the base down with a weatherproof sealant to keep the moisture from deteriorating the wood.

wow, your way to use Tisken blew my mind! I saw this product once or twice at some friends. but only in the trivial bath--kitchen function. there was no chance I would come up with plant-growing use for it myself) wooden base cloches make me uneasy, so I prefer to stick with Ikea food jars or with laboratory cloches. jars are really great. Ikea 365+ series stuff is wonderful as terrariums or compact hotbeds and even as an alternative for cloches. Korken jars are just nice as terrariums for forest plants like mosses or ferns and for lichens

Hi Nick! Those are some great planty hacks! I would probably get al of them, except maybe the toothbrush holder. It's too bad they aren't offered in different colors. Unfortunately, we don't have an IKEA anywhere close to us in Nampa, ID. So many people talk about shopping at IKEA. I hope they decide to build one in Idaho some day. I had the volume turned all the way up and you seem to be quieter than normal on this video. Also, I couldn't open your reply to the pinned comment. Not sure why? Hope this helps! I LOVE the glass covers, BUT watch out with not watering for more than a month😅 the humidity condenses at the lid, but then the wood soaks a lot up. This causes the soil to become hydrophobic so any water put in just ROLLS off the dirt... I experimented with 3 plants + some seedlings and got the same result each time.

These IKEA Hacks are really interesting, I will definitely try out the window planter and also the cork coaster. Although I am wondering if the window planter won’t fall down at some point. My experience with those suction stuff on the bathroom tiles is that they always slide of at some point. Especially with the added weight, don’t they fall of your window? Regarding the audio, the quality is great but for me it’s too quiet.
