I love the idea of building a bed with kitchen cabinet. I’m looking to renovate my tiny bedroom and hoping to include more storage space beneath my bed and this should work pretty well for me! The only question is how the inner side of the bed was built? I think a single row of kitchen cabinet would not be big enough to accommodate 2 persons on it.
@MayYourGodGoWithYou9 ай бұрын
Buy lengths of smooth wood about 1'' by 3'' and cut to size of the mattress and lay over the top of the cabinets to support the mattress over the space in the middle (which you can use for items seldom used such as suit cases, out of season clothing etc). There are a number of KZbin videos showing how to make a bed using kitchen cabinets from Ikea, one of many hacks using Ikea items.

I find a desk more important than the storage area behind the bed. I would put the bed facing the door (a bed with storage underneath but not so high, it looks like an altar), the clothes hanger is well in place and I would put more storage under it, finally a desk for 2 people from the mirror towards the window (unfortunately the heating will cause problems when putting a desk against the wall). Another option is a functional cabin: bed on the upper level and a free space below for a clothes hanger and on the other side a good desk to work or hang out (in my case it wouldn't work because I have a pet and I like it to sleep in my bed)

Currently I store under the bed, on the bottom of the bed (baskets which can easily be removed to change the bedding), on the walls - using strong double sided gel tape and hooks - and I removed the door and replaced it with a curtain rod which holds a curtain for privacy but also all my dresses which need to be hung up. And I have plywood over boxes containing little used items which makes shelving for make=up and accessories etc as well as books, bedside table for water, tablet etc.

There are some good ideas here but I think better is possible. If I had this size of room for 2, I would probably opt for bunk beds or a fold-down wall bed. The limitation of not drilling any holes makes things more difficult. If possible, I would at least try to install some upper wall shelves and use the height of the room as much as possible. The cabinets under the bed are nice and putting wheels on things does add alot of versatility, but that cart by the bed looks messy and feels awkwardly shaped. For that location, I would make it shorter (in length) and go taller. Perhaps if it had some cabinet doors on the end, it would give the room a cleaner look. Finally, the shirt racks need some kind of covering. I've seen stand-alone closets at IKEA that are more what I'm thinking. BTW, what are the actual dimensions of this room?

Love how you call that small, I can barely fit a single bed in mine

Can you guys do a studio ~400 sqft apartment next? :)

The cabinet is only half of the bed. What’s under the other half? I suppose you wouldn’t suggest a second cabinet that you can’t access.

That unit behind the bed is a mistake. Makes it seem cluttered. Some floating shelves above it maybe , yes. And floor to ceiling slim wardrobes alway looks better than clothes on rails. They're cheap to make & customise to your own spec.

I get that not everyone can have space, but if it comes down to using kitchen islands as a bed, I think it's time to look over everything you own and decide if you really need it.

That room is pretty decently sized tbh, the only issue is that it doesn’t have a closet so there’s no place to put clothes at. My childhood bedroom was 3x2 meters (so 6 sq meters) but on one of the 2m long walls there was a built in closet floor to ceiling. However that left me with just a bed and not much more space for literally any other furniture, but it had plenty of storage (too much just for my personal stuff actually) and it was clean and it had a large window with plenty of natural light.

Just put the bed on the corner to the window and you have way more space and possibilities... who the hell is supposed to use this movable shelf and where is the desk?!

$10,000 later and you have a perfect solution for those that don't have enough money to enter the housing market, but enough to be able to waste what little they have to simulate a sense of accomplishment.

Impractical. Anyone who's actually lived in that small a space can tell you this can be done way better.

I actually do. I got rid of my bed and bought a chaise lounge.

so great when you work with a room that can be slightly adjusted to just the right size

Anybody knows what software they use to made that animated room design?

Probably not the software they used, but Sketchup is useful for visualizing layout
