Great review, thanks! I personally can't hear the sound so it doesn't bother me. I also think it's interesting that you said it doesn't get hot enough quick enough, in my experience something like a level 3 is equivalent to what i would expect from a "medium", and the highest I've had to go, for stir frying, is 7, and that just cooked crazy fast with steam and burning. Could be because I'm working with one person portions haha.
@platima
@platima Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks that's much appreciated! If the sound and max heat does not bother you, then I'd say go for it. For me there are 2 or 3 factors that affect it; if I am cooking a steak, I want it to recover its heat quickly as I don't usually use cast iron, but also if I am doing a big 10L+ soup, it can take a LONG time when it's 1500W or less. I want 2000-2400W for that! But yeah for normal use I'd say 5-7 is perfectly fine!

Good stuff as usual thanks. I'm getting a Westinghouse 4 burner induction put in my house today. Costing over 600 bucks to install because switch and power points have to get moved and needs new safely switch outside.

Hey thanks for the comment mate! I am so jealous of you getting a four burner haha. That sounds like a decent price though. The only thing I'd recommend is that the power supply for the burner is up in the roof or really tucked away, as the PSUs for those bigger ones do have a bit of a hum. My mate had hers in the cupboard next to it at the back, and it drove me mental hah.

Thank you! That is what I looked for. Test on how it works on low levels. I expected smooth power consumption on low levels, so I can cook oatmeal without milk getting fried. But it is not so easy.

What I would really like to know is the maximum temperature at each wattage setting.
@platima
@platima 8 ай бұрын
There's unfortunately not really such a thing. The wattage is how much current x voltage it's consuming, the temperature then depends on the medium cooked in, volume of ingredients, density, etc. It's like judging the static pressure of a vacuum based on it's wattage regardless of how full its bin is or how long the hose is. Essentially it'll heat it until it's on fire if need be, the wattage is just how quickly it'll get there!

In regards to the element size, the manual states 175mm at 2000w. Your test for element size was performed at a much lower wattage setting (no 6). Might want to try that test again.
@platima
@platima 7 ай бұрын
Hey I just had a look and it says 175mm, 2000W. Not exactly "at 2000W". When testing though, you can see it's cutting in and out like they all do, so that indicates that it's already using its full coil - none of the portable ones I've come across have staged or multiple coils unfortunately.

I do not like this review because you don't explain what that smart socket is for. Also the different things you do are sometimes hard to keep up with to understand what you are talking about and what you are doing. Good idea behind the video. But not well executed.. Example: at 18:00 "that piercing spound". It may be clear to you and many what you mean. But not to all people. Ecpecially not to people who are not that good in english and are also struggling to understand your dialect. I hope you understand what I mean.
@platima

Hey great feedback! 1) The smart socket is to measure the current it draws, and here's a quick review kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaaWqWuBf8eWhKM 2) Yeah I'm a bit manic, but that's part of my charm perhaps? Haha. My videos certainly aren't for everyone 3) Valid point, I should explain it a bit more. The Aussie accent probably makes it harder, and KZbin likely suppressed the audio, but the unit itself made a high pitch squeal

The hob is apparently only made for boiling water, e.g. for a pressure cooker. As soon as you want to fry something, the ventilation comes on immediately and the induction hob seems to be struggling.

What is the actual diameter of the induction coil? Thanks! Most portable induction cooktop mark a much larger circle on the glass than the actual induction coil, making you think the actual cook areas is larger. So when one uses a pan, only a small circle in the middle is heated. So food is burn and other is undercooked.
@platima
@platima Жыл бұрын
Hey didn't actually bust this one open, but yeah you're not wrong about those portable ones - usually a 6 inch circle with a 3 inch element underneath haha. I test this on each, around @17:42 in this video!
@hawkins55
@hawkins55 Жыл бұрын
@@platima Thank you! 10cm is tiny! I have had 3 different models of portable induction cooktops. The smallest coil was bigger than this one. I either used a similar method as yours to test or just look through the glass top at an angle with reflected light partially shining through the top.
@platima

@@hawkins55 Yeah that does work well, but I usually disassemble them. I've found some also appear to have 'dud' coil area, eg inactive wire possibly just for show. I find the Tilreda far too hot at low settings. 3 burns pancakes. But at 2 they don't cook properly. Anything above 6 is very hot. They need to adjust the firmware so it's logarithmic and there's more low power settings. I'm on a mission to find a good portable induction stove too. I tried the "Xiao Mi MIJIA Portable Induction Cooktop 2". It is even worse for lack of low power control. 99 levels but even 2 out of 99 boils water!

insane! 99 power settings but even 2 boils water?? LMAO, that's totally nuts! this tillreda i feel like is also too hot even on 1, but not so bad, i simmer steel cut oatmeal on 1, covered, on 2 it will simmer-boil uncovered. that seems still quite strong when u consider there are still 7 levels above that. makes me feel like 7 thru 9 are just useless, generally speaking, unless your objective is simply to boil water as fast as possible.

1000watts on 6 that's a lotta current to boil some water no ? I have been using a small gas camp stove in my kitchen for the last few years and its been awesome, the only downfall is its very hard to cook anything slow or at very low temps, I'm thinking of getting one of these but that current draw is insane. If you used one of these for all your cooking your energy bill would be higher no ?
@platima
@platima 2 ай бұрын
Yes and no. These will all do up to anywhere between 1000W and 2400W depending on how they are designed. This is a 'peak' though, as they control the load by switching on and off. There's pros and cons to all sorts of cooking. Gas camp stoves are notoriously slow to heat things. Induction cookers are incredibly fast. Natural gas stove tops are a fair bit more powerful than portable ones given their pressure and design. Gas though has the risk of adverse health effects, fire, etc. Induction mitigates these risks, but does come with the requirement of conductive cookware. Overall I would expect the cost of gas bottles for the camp stove to exceed the power cost of an induction cooker, but natural house gas to be cheaper. At an approximation, cooking @ 1000W for 30 mins per day every day of the year might cost $100 AUD per year. Realistically I don't cook every day, nor for that long. Personal preference in the end I guess!

Hey mate I'd go with the Nationwide Electrical, else if you cannot get that then Anko. The Ikea one is terrible. Either way you'll need a decent generator as these pull a LOT of watts. But also while camping, why not cook over a camp fire? We only ever camp cook when we are out!

No, unfortunately not this one. You can use a smart socket like I did though, and set the timer there instead. I would recommend the WiZ range you can find at Bunnings - they're damn good! Else TP-Link ones - preferably the 'Kasa' range if you can as they're better than the newer 'Tapo'. Good luck!

My hob will simmer at level 2. Simmering is boiling.
@platima
@platima 8 ай бұрын
That's good to know! But also no, simmering in most cases is not considered boiling. A boil is a more aggressive process, a simmer - which you could consider a gentle boil - is literally a degree different usually, where only the water in contact with the heating surface is boiling, so the main volume of the cook is not exposed to 100C. That is also my understanding, and I may be wrong, but do not think I am!
