Hi Trinity, These are plastic straw or real straw. Plastic can be reused often as it doesn't rot or smell. I re-use these a lot and they last for years, but real straw is much more environmentally friendly.

Hello Andrew, these straws actually plastic. Traditionally proper straw was used, but it can get a bit smelly after a few uses, so plastic is more practical. These particular straws I buy in Japan specially, but you could use thin drinking straws, either plastic or paper. Hope that helps. Junko
