Really debating between the R7 and R6 😵‍💫. Mainly for macro

Two great cameras, but if you're mainly shooting macro than the Canon R7 is a great choice. It's crop sensor allows for extra reach for tiny critters, and it fits in the smaller DLM housing which saves on space and weight. Let us know if you have anymore questions!

Oh how I wish I were getting into underwater photography now! Too many age related defects preventing me from scuba diving now. I used an Ikelite housing for my Canon SLR camera years ago and was happy with it but having to replace the roll of film on a rocking boat in between dives in "subdued" sunlight was a pain! I do have a nice library of photos from back then.

thankyou! maybe R8 big sensor is useful in ambient light videos but without IBIS the footage is difficult to use, this narrows the situations of usefulness of that camera. on the other hand why didnt you analyze also R6 mark I ? Is the autofocus tecnology that bad that it doesnt deserve the race in this set of cameras?

Great comparison! Got the R8 as it was a very good deal at 1400 euros + 24-50 IS kit lens (normally 2000eu in the netherlands). The only thing I don't like is the lack of ibis. In your experience in shooting underwater video. If I were to stick to IS lenses, would I still be able to shoot steady video?

You can still shoot some decent video with an IS lens. Some additional tricks on footage that is less steady are to shoot 60fps and slow down or add some stabilization in editing. With a non-IS (non-Canon) lens it can be pretty bad.
