People like it when someone takes the effort to learn their language, as it implies you liked their culture and people enough to learn it. Because of this they want to encourage you to keep learning. Mandarin isnt a hard language to learn except you are trying to learn the writing part. You need to use your brain really hard to memorize things in writing chinese. I like how with the Japanese guy (although you eventually asked him if he just wanted to speak Japanese) he was so comfortable in your bilinguality that he could practise his English eve if a bit broken and if necessary you would be able to explain the errors in perfect Japanese and be really clear which is one downside to having language lessons where the people teaching you their language ONLY know that language although there are upsides to total immersion.

I can give you a different perspective, which is as true of Japan, as it is true of Hungary. People want to talk to you in your language because the one used only assimilates inward, meaning without sufficient representation of foreigners, any foreign language becomes a shadow image of the actual language. It gets passive and forgotten outside some hotspots. A secondary misstep people are prone to make is claiming they speak a foreign language when all that they do is adapting said language to their own rules. That gave birth to Chinglish and Japlish. To give an example, this means a person once learned "you hit the nail on the head", but after losing a live connection to native speakers, it devolves into the local version of that expression (if it's different), and when they express themselves again, they use that metaphor translated into English, and they spend more time explaining than recalling that "you hit the nail on the head" means. It's possible to speak your own language using foreign words, without a hint of relation to the culture that shaped said foreign language. Therefore, I can totally understand his desire to escape the monolingual language desert that is Japan, and Ikenna is a professional for encouraging him.

Ikenna your so good at Japanese and other languages and I know for a fact that I'll never be a good as you but I am currently thinking on trying a new language! Maybe like British, Irish, or Italian! I am very proud of you because according to google Japanese is consider one of the most hardest languages to learn! Keep on going and soon your channel will grow even bigger!
