Zack's death is one of the reasons his character is so great. And Zack death was inevitable because it had to stay true to FF7's story. I may like Cloud more than Zack but I can say with 100% certainty that Zack's character wouldn't be as cherished or loved without his death. Hate Cloud and love Zack all you want but if their roles where reversed in who lived and who died you'd love Cloud to.

@pivenidis I know it's a bit late to reply to your question but here's the reason.... Cloud doesn't pull away from Zack if you watch closely you'll see that Zack pushes the sword toward Cloud because he was hesitating to take it... Cloud would never do that to Zack

Zack died because he was an "Escaped experiment" from Shinra and he knew too much. He also died by protecting Cloud. Crisis Core is a great game and I recommend playing it and completing all the missions. Only if Cloud used Phoenix Down on Zack T^T

@LoveToSpootch in the ff7 ultimania omega guide, it says he created a new personality because of the jenova cells within him reading tifa's mind, gaining knowledge of her memories with him. that, mixed with cloud's ideal vision of himself (a badass from SOLDIER, instead of a failure as he saw himself because of his inferiority complex) created a new personality and reality for him in his shattered state of mind. that new reality was basically being zack. this was his mind's way of coping.

Personally I think Crisis Core isn't that great. I just couldn't get into it like I did with FFVII (even though I have replayed it several times). The Angeal/Genesis story is just plain and I was waiting for Nibelheim incident so much which turn out to be a let down (it's lack of narrative and inconsistency to the original story). Zack is an interesting character, but I "get" to play only him. If I could play other character as well, maybe the game would become more enjoyable. Over all, I rather replay FFVII (again) and watch Crisis Core cutscenes on youtube (for the relative events). That would be a better time investment.

@isam11100 If zack surrendered...they would either kill or experiment on him anyway so him fighting for cloud was his chosen option. About Cloud..., the mako poisoning ,experimentation and jenova cells caused him to remember zack's personality and memories as himself combined with his image of a 1st class rather than as another person - In his mind Zack didn't exist. He held a fake persona until he realized that his memories and personality was not his own and later returned to his normal self.

Amen. English Cloud is pretty amazing. Maybe we can conveniently forget that horribly done scream, lol. I have yet to figure out exactly what Takahiro Sakurai's voice sounds like. He did Luka from Uraboku, Suzaku from Code Geass, and Misaki from Junjou Romantica. Huh??? If you don't know who these characters are, just watch two seconds of each of them talking. TOTALLY different. Like polar opposites. The range is just incredible.

@oanezzaa There's no Movie before Advent children. If you want to understand the full FF VII story, you have to play the games first, now I recommend playing them in the original order with VII then Crisis Core, but if you go chronologically for the story then play Crisis Core, then VII, then watch Advent again. The story is just amazing, and you really need to play both games to understand it all 100%.
