To be fair if they told the story here, it would've impacted the sales of the comics, which cost money to print. Also as someone else said, it was a way of them explaining that while some of the ATLA cast would play a role in the story, this wasn't their story anymore.

Ikki is my favorite character in the entire legend of korra. She's hillarious like meelo but still has the airbending wisdom and strength of jinora. The perfect blend of her sibling... Well balanced and relatable in being the middle child who fights with her siblings. I didn't like LoK much but characters like ikki, meelo, jinora, bolin, and opal make up for it. As well as returning characters.
