I love that the sassy and socially savage Toph never changed! I didn't think how occasionally terrible and unacknowledging Toph was that caused Lin to be closed-minded and not reach truth sensory. I always hate that Lin arrested the wrong people. But I'm glad L and T each learned from their own mistakes, while together or separate, and finally reconciled!

Toph is right about Korra’s enemies: people like Amon, Zatheer and Kuvira want to bring balance to the messed up world.They are far more complex than your typical Avatar villain. But those guys are unbalanced and they’ve taken their ideologies way too far. Here is a moral lesson from the original Beifong: If you want to make the world a better place, peace is the best way to do it. But we also need people to fight to preserve that peace.

Being reborn in different nations is not about having the proficiency to bend an element over all other elements. It's to maintain balance. If an avatar keeps getting reborn in one nation (i.e. the fire nation), then the fire nation would have insurmountable power they could potentially leverage. Having avatars in different nations prevents this predicament
