This is not true; Moi pulled Njonjo close because of his influence with the Kikuyu elite. Njonjo, on the other side, thought that he would control Moi and did not have an option as the British were on his neck to fulfil the constitution after Kenyatta's death. He wasn’t fully loyal and only focused on the interest of the elite, but he was not the president. He was the hand of the king before Biwott became.
