It is true Moi through Kanyotu who had planted Special Branch spies in the military knew about the coup at least a few days before it happened.When Kanyotu sought permission from Moi to arrest the coup plotters,on Friday 30th July 1982 at the Nyeri show ground, Moi felt it was wrong for police to arrest the military and left it for Monday 2nd August for the military police and military intelligence to carry out the arrests on Monday 2nd August,but the coup happened a day earlier on 1st August 1982 a Sunday catching Moi off-guard.

I agree with you 💯 per cent. The sad thing here is that some NCOs were jailed for failing to suppress the mutiny yet C.I.C.himself when he had been briefed by intelligence officers (Kanyutu) did not take drastic steps to arrest the situation. Moi should have been the first respondent in court marshal in Langata barracks. Why?--- He knew and failed to stop the coup. I know it sounds odd but I tell you innocent soldiers and NCOs suffered in jail UNNECESSARILY.

Fall from grace Njonjo’s downfall, when it came, was swift. On 1 July 1983, he announced that he was resigning his position as Minister for Constitutional Affairs. He was accused of scheming, in the company of Kenya Air Force men, to oust President Daniel arap Moi. Moi appointed a Commission of Inquiry to go into Njonjo’s affairs, and over the course of 109 days Kenyans were transfixed as a parade of witnesses opened up Njonjo’s dirty laundry for public inspection. This is an extract from a journal, THE CONVERSATIONS. So I think Hezbon is mixing up dates and some details.The Njonjo Commission of Inquiry led by Chief Justice Cecil Miller started sometime in 1983 after the coup attempt. His lawyer was Queen's Counsel Deverell assisted by Paul Muite, not Byron Georgiadis.

In this case, the discussion is more serious and so clarity is needed. Mwaf, ask open ended questions and let the guy talk. That way follow up questions can be asked based on what he’s saying. Many of the questions you ask begin with “So, it means that…” rather than asking “What do you mean when you say…” or “Does this mean…”. There’s other opportunities for such kind of interviews in future and I know you will get better at these. Keep up the good effort.

This man doesn't really know exactly what transpire on Jomo Kenyatta's death. When Kenyatta died in Mombasa technically the Chief of Staff is the one who calls the shots, so for this man to talk of Airforce Commander excluding Gen. Mulinge is a big lie. Gen. Mulinge is the one who called the cabinet and ordered Njonjo to read the Constitution what it says in such circumstances, and that is how Moi took over for 90 days before an election. I know Mahmoud personally, I know his daughter (Mrs Duale) personally. In fact, I was to join the Airforce in February 83, only that the police came earlier in October 82.

HESBON appears to brand anybody a Maj Gen. Mulinge, Sawe, Mahmoud etc. As a military man, he should have known that Mulinge was a full General (4*) Sawe was a Lieutenant Gen (3*) and Mahmoud was a Maj Gen (2*). For a civilian to confuse, it’s okay, but a Senior NCO !
@mbatiajimmy506611 ай бұрын
James, why are you trying to discredit Hesbon based on a small matter of rank mix up? One can easily get ranks mixed up!! It has been over 40 years since Odiero interacted with those men for God’s sake!

It is common for anyone to use the term General for anyone that had hit the rank of Major or General. I know of many lieutenant colonels but when talking they are called Colonels. Nothing strange about that.

Odiero says the 1982 coup was a ploy by Moi to kick Kikuyu’s and Luo’s out of the military. Which indeed happened after the 1882 ploy coup! Thousands of Kenyans died when the Moi’s coup ploy took place! Many other innocent people suffered great loses. Nairobi was completely destroyed during the coup fracas! Moi was thought to be a good Christian leader like Ruto himself claims to be. But now evidence is coming out based on what Odiero is saying that Moi allowed many Kenyans to die and property destroyed for him to strength his rule. What measures have been put in place to make sure Ruto does not do the same thing to stay in power past 2027??

Odiero - a lot of things you are saying here seems to contradict what Watenge has said about the coup in reference to Raila betraying Njonjo to get out of prison! Odiero, can you set the facts straight about what James Watenge has said against Raila? I am glad you have come out so we can fact check Watenge’s above the neck computer😂😂😂!!!
