I seem to recall the Germans tried to sneak a raid across the North Sea from Norway during the Battle of Britain, with results very much like this. The second line aircraft in the North of England pretty well shot the raid to pieces. Of course, my memory may be incorrect.

Some models of the Beaufighter had four 20-mm cannon and six .303 Brownings - the heaviest firepower of any British attack aircraft.

​@@roscoefilms Okay, further to my question, I just found this reference: "A variant of the Bristol Beaufighter Mk X constructed in Australia. The first Bristol Beaufighter Mk 21 flew on 26th May 1944. 364 were completed up to the end of 1945 and were fitted with 4x Browning 50 calibre machine guns rather than the 6 x .303 installed in British planes." Four .5s, not six, but still an impressive weight of fire. The reference does not say if the 20-mm cannon were retained, but we can presume that they were.

@@MarsFKA Yeah my bad, thought they had 6, and they kept the 20mm as well. Aussies didn't like the .303 as they provided little effectiveness.

It is noticeably faster than the Hurricane at sea level, about on par with the Spit and 109 actually. Cant say for higher altitudes.

How do you keep the plane in level? It always wants to go up when I play. Is there a rudder leveling or somthing.

Aircraft will only fly straight and level at a certain speed that they are trimmed for by the mechanics on the ground. Exceed that and it will start climbing, fall below and it will start sinking, it's how an aircraft behaves. For this reason aircraft are normally at least equipped with a trimmable elevator.

This is going to unbalance the Battle of Britain fights as badly as it did in IL-2 1946. The Beaufighter's massive armament can destroy any German plane in one pass, and as a result will be taken by huge numbers of people. Hopefully it's own maneuverability and toughness won't be so good as to make Bf-109Es unable to knock it down.

How would that unbalance fights? The 110 can also delete most british bombers in one pass and still gets rekt by any single engine fighter. Same will go for the beaufighter.

In IL-2 1946, the Bf-110 could OFTEN wreck an enemy plane in a pass, and you are right, the big Messerschmitt was easily damaged by enemy fighters. Will the Beaufighter be equally fragile? In IL-2 1946 it was a VERY tough plane, such that it took many sustained Bf-109 or Bf-110 cannon shots to cripple. I saw good pilots rack up 5+ kills per mission on the old Spits vs. 109's (i.e. full-real) server. And they weren't booming and zooming- they were dogfighting with the Beaufighter. Still, let's see how it works out in multiplayer.

The Beau definitely won't survive long in a dogfight with 109s in TF 4.5. It doesnt turn well and its roll rate is also underwhelming. It does have a surprising amount of speed though, at least on the deck where it is roughly on par with the Spits and 109s.
