Excellent episode taff, 2 more victories claimed and you lived to fight another day. That's what I call a close call when that 109 got on your tail, that cannon is a real menace to deal with but you got away alive and that's what matters. Great episode, keep it up mate, looking forward to the next one.

Ah, the A-20, sometimes called the Havok, sometimes the Boston, but generally by me when flying for the Luftwaffe, "the target". Nice flying Mr Taff, but oh boy, were you ever lucky that big canon on the 109 K didn't end your career.

im really surprised you made it home i thought you were a goner when red 3 came after you. that 109s wingman was pretty good and made you blackout twice and was still on your tail

Very exciting. Close call there. Watching this Havocs made me wonder. Is there a career flying a Mosquito in Coastal Command? That, for me, would be something to watch. Sinking lighters and freighters was an important job. One rarely covered by flight sims and history vids. If not, there's an idea for the devs and modders.

Any sort of campaign with coastal command would be interesting as generally had to use repurposed equipment that was no longer consider suitable for front line duties.
@robgraham5697 Жыл бұрын
@@PeterSlack83 Just so. It would be interesting if aircraft like the Beaufighter or the Tsetse could be included but, so far as I know, those aren't in IL2 GB

Keep an eye out for "black 3" everyone. We've got the makings of an arch-nemesis situation since taff damaged him and he made it back to base.

Nice one, as ever! Regarding the ammo count/remaining; I seem to recall that the Mustang carried an extra 50 rounds for the outer guns. So as soon as you stopped firing with six guns, it wes time to 'vamoose' but at least you had some offensive capability remaining. Pax dude.

Only four guns on a P51B, you'd need to be flying a P51D to get six.

Close call, glad, you made it home. Btw, is that in-game music? Reminds a bit of Saving Private Ryan.

Do you make these missions yourself, or do you use the pilot career or PWCG to run a campaign?

That was a bit of a scare, Taff. I was fully expecting that you would be ditching in the Channel. That 109 pilot and his wingman were far more skilled pilots than the 190s you managed to shoot down, suggesting that a few German veterans are still around. The squadron was doing quite well with 9 aces. Unfortunately, three of them didn't come back this time.

I disagree that the 355th Fighter Squadron has 105 kills, because that figure includes 6 balloons, which in my opinion shouldn't count. So IMO, the real figure is exactly 100 - counting Wilson Overton's 109 that flew into the Channel! In WW2, it was tremendously easier, 5 times easier, for fighters to shoot down balloons than it was in WW1.

Why did you only get credit for 2 kills? It looked like you killed 3 and heavily damaged a fourth one.
@colindouglas7769 Жыл бұрын
That 109 that ended up in the drink was a strange one. I don't think Taff did enough to kill him with guns because the 109 that shot him up was mostly on his tail so Taff couldn't get guns on him. He might have wounded the pilot in the head-on pass, but the 109 wasn't leaking coolant or fuel, so maybe the pilot had a blackout and couldn't pull up in time before he hit the water. I don't know if the game counts manoeuvre kills. I remember Taff's Rise Of Flight series and manoeuvre kills were not credited in that. Maybe, IL-2 GB is the same. Another explanation might be that Taff's two credited kills were the first 190 and the 109 that hit the water. The first 109 he damaged managed to RTB (you see it landing safely near the end of the video before Taff lands at homebase), so he doesn't receive a credit for that one. The second 190 kill may have been credited to the gunner in one of the B-26s because I noticed when Taff got on its tail, it was already trailing fluids. Sounds harsh, but maybe that's the explanation for only 2 kills being credited. Perhaps if Taff had included the post-mission action report in the video, we would see what actually happened to each of the planes that were shot down during the engagement.

Just my uneducated observation, but I thought that when you fly a mission to "bomb an airfield," that would entail actually bombing the airfield, and not just near it? Your kills were not counted, because you were alone and there was no one to verify... But you did okay I suppose. Your gunning was nearly full on "horrible!" blazing away good ammo while it sails past the enemy ship is not how to win a battle!
