I'm very interested in seeing you've included the Martlet III which was used in the Pacific by the US Navy. With this map will there ever be a posibility for some carrier ops? Or maybe as part of a future update? Sadly the Great Battles platform is yet to bring us carrier ops.

Outside of continued attention continued improvement of the game, we are also going to introduce a brilliant new weather system and VR hopefully in early 2021. And the martlett is a great aircraft to fly, capable when used to it's strengths and I am sure skinners will be making US skins about 5 minutes after release! Cheers, Pattle

The particular Martlet in this video looks like a Martlet III(B), one of 30 F4F-3As originally ordered by Greece in November 1940. However, by the defeat of Greece in April 1941, these aircraft had only reached Gibraltar, and were taken over by the Fleet Air Arm. As the aircraft did not have folding wings and were not ideal for use on British aircraft carriers, they were only used from land bases. They served in a shore-based role in the Western Desert. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_F4F_Wildcat#Martlet_Mk_III

Can't wait to see this released, cliffs of Dover has really "snap too" camera controls compared to Stalingrad/Great Battles, at least in my experience with it. Cliffs of Dover just doesn't seem to have aged well next to Stalingrad, maybe that's a massive user error on my part, but that still doesn't change how excited I am for Africa flight sim
@dazako4 жыл бұрын
By 'aged' be aware Cliffs had no official support since it's incomplete launch until this Tobruk release. Only TFS mods kept it alive. Not absolutes but Cliffs tends to have more appeal with the older 'enthusiast' flyer where the BOS series leans further into the much wider 'gamer' territory. Different game engines and developers. Both camps have their fans and some enjoy both. Tobruk being new will likely bridge that user gap with upgrades to Cliffs Blitz plus brand new N Africa theatre content. Exciting time indeed.

Very nice to be able to see some Desert Wings Tobruk visuals. Great to have the Africa theatre available as well. It won't be for me personally because as far as I know they have no VR support. I imagine Desert Wings Tobruk certainly looks like a theatre worth while exploring with TrackIR, though I don't fly TrackIR myself. About what I'd like to see: obviously some Desert Wings Tobruk specific stuff and anything that can illustrate the situation on the African front during WW2 would be great. El Alamein is not on the map I imagine, but maybe some desert tank support or attack?

Cool new expansion. The Marlet/Wildcat was easily outclassed by just about anything the Germans or Italians would throw at it. But it does make a good Stuka killer. I don't think it would have been as lethal against Dorniers and J88's. I am curious about your progression in this campaign though so keep them coming.
@brotheriii61334 жыл бұрын
This video is great. But why did the the british call the F4F wildcat the Marlatt
@Wolfpack3454 жыл бұрын
A lot of lend lease stuff was renamed. Another example is the American Clemson Class destroyers were named Town Class by the British.
@timonsolus4 жыл бұрын
The British like names, not numerical designations like the Americans, Germans and Japanese. The British named all the WW2 USAAF fighters - Lightning, Airacobra, Thunderbolt, Mustang. They called the Wildcat the Martlet because Royal Navy fighters were named after seabirds.
@neilharbott83944 жыл бұрын
Might also have something to do with hiding the aircraft capabilities - not that it would take long for a decent intelligence service to figure out that these "new" British planes were US F4Fs.

If you even flew towards a bombed convoy in real life, they would have opened up with every available gun, so your low level run of inspection would have got a hot reception. The average sailor wasn't too hot on aircraft recognition and most guns on merchant ships were manned by MN crewmen.
@ChrisS-fh7zt4 жыл бұрын
1 radial engines do not have radiators or any type of liquid cooling at least by WWII standard types. But 2 you do have cowl flaps that ring around the cowling slightly behind the engine and they do just like a radiator by allowing the excess heat to escape when the forward motion of the plane pushes it out through them. Not criticizing just informing. But yes an Italian campaign would be so awesome diff with the later 1942-43 Fighter types.
